Re: Doc's World
Jessica left the party around 1and started the long drive home. She didn't like freeways, so she was driving on some two-lane country roads when it started raining. Suddenly, a torrential rain started coming down and she hydroplaned on a curve and went into a ditch. She gave herself a quick onceover and determined she wasn't injured. Finding her cellphone in her purse, she turned it on only to see "No Signal". She thought for a few minutes and remembered passing a house about a quarter mile back. She decided to walk back and hopefully they would have a landline that she could call for a tow service to pull her car out of the ditch. She found a raincoat on the backseat, put it on and started walking back to the house she had passed.
The rain continued coming down and she finally got to the house. There were no lights on and no cars in the driveway, and she thought that no one was home. She knocked on the door and to her surprise, it swung open. She poked her head inside and called out to see if anyone was home. She didn't hear any response, so she went inside. The house looked abandoned, though there was still furniture inside. Jessica wandered around the house, looking for a landline phone but when she found one, it wasn't working. As she walked back to the living room, she noticed a large dollhouse on a table. It looked like a replica of the very house she was now standing in. The storm was still raging outside, so she decided to ride it out and figure out what to do in the morning. She found a couch that she decided she would try to get a little sleep on and a blanket. As she wrapped the blanket around her, she noticed it had a peculiar, though not unpleasant medicine smell. She snugged down on the couch with the blanket pulled right up to her nose and within minutes fell fast asleep.
A loud clap of thunder woke her from her slumber. She got up and tried to look out the windows, but all she saw was blackness. She went to the front door and when she tried to open it, it seemed to be stuck shut. She yanked on the handle, but it wouldn't budge. She went back to a window and found the windows had heavy metal screening which wouldn't open. She decided to look around for a crowbar or something like that and try to pry the door open. She looked around the downstairs and found nothing, so she started up the stairs. The bedrooms were all furnished like the downstairs. Apparently, whoever last lived here, moved out and left everything behind. Still not finding anything she could use as a prybar, Jessica went up to the attic. She was startled for a moment when she bumped into a life-size doll like mannikin. Jessica thought the mannikin looked just like a doll she had played with as a child, but hers had been five inches tall and this one was five feet tall. A window on the roof gave a little light into the attic and she kept looking around, then something struck her........this house appeared to have been abandoned years ago, but there were no cobwebs or dust on the furniture. In fact, the house seemed to have been recently cleaned. She then noticed a faint smell of paint or varnish. She knelt down on the floor and felt the floorboards and found the grain of the wood, while smooth, was heavier than the wood floor in her parent's house, and she could smell a relatively fresh varnish odor. Why would someone put this much work into an abandoned house? She began to feel a little uneasy about this whole night. She pulled out her phone and found that she still didn't have any signal. Now, panic beginning to well up inside her, she suddenly got the feeling that she was being watched.......She turned towards the window and saw a giant eye looking in on her. She screamed, dropping her phone, as the roof lifted off the house and a hand the size of a mattress reached towards her. Fingers like flexible telephone poles wrapped around her and lifted her out of the house. She looked around and saw that she was back in the living room, but now the size of a sports area. She looked down and saw the dollhouse on the table where she had seen it earlier, now with its roof open like it was on hinges. Then her gaze began to wander upwards, past dinner plate sized shirt buttons up to a face of a young man, but it was like looking at a face on a billboard. Her mind began to swirl, and her vison began to fade as she fainted away.
Jessica's car was found and towed in the morning. A search of the area yielded no results; the rain having washed away her tracks. She was listed as another "missing person".

Re: Doc's World
It's been ten years since the "shrinking virus" pandemic. While it only affected about 5% of the world's population, tens of millions of people were now only five to six inches tall. Many of them continued to live with family or friends, but many still wanted to live "normal" lives. To facilitate these people, in many larger cities, entire city blocks were razed, and socialist type apartment buildings were built in a scale suitable for these people. An industrial section of each city was built for industries such as doll sized furniture, clothing, jewelry and other everyday stuff both for the victims of the virus and collectors of dolls and dollhouses. Food was brought into the tiny cities and processed and packaged in a size the little people could consume. By now, the cities have basically become self-sufficient, buying and selling consumer goods from and to the "normal" people. A ten-foot chain link fence was built around the cities, not to keep the "littles" in, but to keep the "bigs", including animals such as cats or rats, out. With the exception of the "littles" that chose to live with "bigs", and even though there were no laws against fraternization (including romantic relationships), the two sizes of people rarely interacted with each other.
The cities were self-governing too, electing their own officials and creating their own police, fire and sanitation departments. The one thing they were missing, was medical services as there were not enough doctors, nurses and medical technicians to go around. That's where I, and others, came in. One wing of the hospital was built solely to serve the virus victims. Veterinarians were crossed trained as human doctors, since they were used to working on small animals and vet techs were trained to assist them. I was a vet tech that specialized in rehabilitation of injuries in small animals, so I was hired on as a physical therapist at the hospital. I would help "littles" with physical therapy required while they recovered from orthopedic or muscular skeletal injuries. It paid well and the "littles" were much more cooperative than the animals I used to work with and I rarely got bit !!!
Just outside the hospital, next to the fence separating the two cities, was a coffee and donut shop that I frequented on nice days. I would sit at an outside table while drinking coffee and eating a donut and watch the "littles" go about their lives. I never gave it too much thought. They had their lives, I had mine and other than work, I rarely crossed the size barrier and socialized with any of them. It wasn't due to any type of prejudice or anything like that. Many of the "littles" still feared the "bigs" as there had been incidents where "littles" were killed, accidently or intentionally, by "bigs", usually children just being children. Others developed what we used to call "small man" syndrome, and the egos and arrogance were much larger than their bodies. Still, they were kind of fascinating to watch. Kind of like what ants in the ant farm I had as a kid. I would watch them walking along the sidewalks or driving around on the streets. Electric cars were invented in their size, powered by four "AA" batteries. Other than their size, they operated the same as regular gasoline or electric cars that had been around for a hundred years. A service station was on the side of the city near the coffee shop, and I was laugh to myself at the stacks of batteries that I normally keep in my kitchen junk drawer, stacked up and installed in the cars after they were recharged. Sometimes I thought they were "cute", kind of like the little dolls my kid sister used to play with....and a few I saw were nothing like those dolls, though I thought if my sister's dolls looked like some of the "little" women, I just might find myself playing with dolls too.
It was a really nice day, and I had just gotten off of work. I decided a coffee and donut would be in order, so I walked down to the shop and took my usual seat. It seemed like just another normal day in "tiny town" when I heard a commotion. I looked around and saw a man running from a police officer. He made it to the fence and climbed though the opening in the grid. The officer was way behind him and while I didn't know why he was running, I knew the officer would never catch him if he got into the "big city". I stuck out the toe of my shoe and tripped him, then put my foot on top of him. Not hard enough to hurt him, but enough to keep him from getting up. The officer had now made it to the fence and climbed through and ran towards my foot. I released the pressure enough to allow the officer to handcuff him and walk him back to the fence where other officers took control of him and led him away. The officer turned around and walked back towards me. When the officer got closer and looked up to say, "Thanks for the assistance", I saw it was a woman officer. A very pretty one at that. She then said, "What kind of donut are you eating? You know the cliche of cops and donuts, don't you?" I laughed and said, "A chocolate frosted and there's plenty enough for both of us." For a moment she just stood there, looking up at me, her hands on her hips. I laughed, apologized and lowered my hand palm up to the floor. She hopped on and I lifted her up and when my hand settled on the top of the table, she hopped off, walked over to a saltshaker and hopped on top of it like it was a bar stool. I tore off a piece of my donut and handed it to her along with a two-inch square piece of my napkin. Then I got an idea and took a pen out of my pocket and took it apart. The "clicker" was hollow and just about the size of a coffee cup to her, so I dripped a few drops of coffee into it and handed it to her. She laughed and said, "You're pretty ingenious. This is perfect !!!"
We sat and chatted for a while. Outside of the professional conversations I've had with "littles" at work, this was the first time I ever had a real conversation with one. Since I've been working so much, I haven't had much time for socializing and a little out of practice with small talk....pardon the pun.....but our conversation was very comfortable for both of us. I surprised myself when I absent mindedly looked at her left hand for a ring, which there wasn't one. She finished her crumb of a donut and her coffee and hopped down off the saltshaker, saying, "Well, I have a report to file so I'll have to go. Thanks for the donut and coffee...." but as she hit the table, her legs buckled under her, pitching her forward. My hand shot out instinctively, palm up and she landed face down onto my hand. I asked her if she was okay and she said her leg was sore and she thinks she may have pulled a muscle during the foot chase. My fingers had become quite nimble since working with the "littles" in the hospital and I slipped off her boots and felt her calf muscles. "Yeah", I said. "Your legs feel a bit knotted. You may have done something to them. You should go to the hospital tomorrow and have it checked out." I was massaging her calf, first one then the other, like I would have done if she was a patient. She moaned a little and said, "Damn. That feels soooooooo good." Embarrassed, I stopped rubbing her legs and she quickly said, "Hey, don't stop just yet." The tone of her voice gave me a stirring feeling down low that I haven't felt for quite a while.
Finally, she said her calves felt a little better and she should go. I waited until she slipped her boots back on and I lowered her to the floor. She hopped off of my hand, then turned and said, "I'm done when I get this report filed. It'll take me maybe a half hour. Why don't you hang around, and you can, ummmm, take another look at my leg." I told her the clinic was closed now and she replied, "Well, don't you make house calls? Like maybe YOUR house? Who knows, I may have pulled a "Hammie" too?" I would have sworn I saw her wink at me. She trotted off, back and through the fence while I sat there, nursing the remains of my donut and coffee. What just happened here? More importantly, what was going to happen next? I think, I'll just hang around for a bit and see where this goes...............Hmmmmmmmmm. Those little handcuffs hanging on her belt could be fun.

Re: Doc's World
Emma decided to apply for a job as a live-in maid for a wealthy professor for the summer after her freshman year at collage. She arrived promptly and was escorted to the study for an interview.
"I see you have no immediate family. No boyfriend or children, so no attachments. I think you'll do fine."
Emma was pleased and accepted an offer of a cup of tea while they started a tour of the house. The professor escorted into a room full of lavish dollhouses. "You'll be cleaning these, so they'll look perfect when I present them at auction."
Emma was a bit confused. Cleaning dollhouses? Then she began to feel lightheaded, then passed out. When she awoke, she was lying on a warm, soft yet firm mattress-like surface. She realized she was no longer wearing her business suit she wore for the interview, but some type of maid outfit made out of thick, coarse material. Then she discovered that the surface she was lying on was the professor's hand which was bigger than a bed.
The professor carried her over to one of the dollhouses. "You'll be living here from now on. I would suggest you stay inside when I'm not around as the cat does roam the house freely. That's how I lost my last housekeeper, sadly. And my daughter will be coming to stay for a few weeks. She'll be bringing her eight-year-old daughter who loves playing dolls with my dollhouses. You'll be spending time with her too as her doll. In the evenings, you'll entertain me".

Re: Doc's World
Amy was at a sorority party her first year at college and accepted a "dare" during a game of "Truth or Dare".
" Go to the old witch's house around the corner and throw these eggs at her door."
"Okay" she replied as she headed out the door.
"Are you sure she should do that? That old lady is really spooky."
"Don't worry. The witch isn't home. I saw her leave earlier."
"But I saw her come back about 30 minutes ago......"
Amy was just about to throw the eggs when she heard an angry old woman's voice.
"Just what do you think you are doing, little girl?"
Amy dropped the eggs, then spun around to see dandelions taller than she, then saw old witch towering over her. As the old witches' hand came down and her fingers wrapped around Amy's now tiny body, the witch said, "I have a nice cage inside that is just your size, little girl. I think you'll make a nice pet."
