After the curse…
After the curse, Jean-Eugène found himself turned into a stage magician’s wand.
Jean-Eugène immediately went into hiding. Jean-Eugène Knew from the beginning he was a fraud, at least when compared to somebody like the Enchantress. But there was no explaining that to the Beast that Prince Adam had become. So Jean-Eugène made sure that his disappearing trick was flawless.
It didn’t mean that Jean-Eugène wanted to remain an animated magician’s wand forever. So even as he hid from Adam, who would go on occasional rampages, looking for Jean-Eugène and demanding that the court magician “do something” about the curse, Jean-Eugène kept his eyes open. When Jean-Eugène heard about the young woman named Belle in the dungeon, he thought there was an opportunity to break the curse. All it would take is perhaps making Belle and Adam a little more appealing to each other.
Jean-Eugène decided that that little bit of magic was within his reach. So he cast his little spell.
Unfortunately for Belle, Jean-Eugène didn’t know how his charm spell was going to interact with the curse that overlaid the castle. The end result was that a distraught Belle became even more distraught when she shrank out of her clothes and down to a height of nine and a half inches.
