A Halloween tribute to one of my all time favorite 1950's monster movies, The Incredible Shrinking Man. My take on the terrifying spider scenes. Enjoy the carnage, but enter at your peril. You have been warned!

A passing glittering radiactive cloud causes our heroine to suddenly start shrinking. Soon she is so small a common pet cat is a deadly threat. She manages to escape into the dark rafters of the attic, but she soon realizes a greater horror awaits!

Woops, gotta up my editing game. I've fixed it as best I could. Hope you like it. But not to worry, there won't be any more worry about extra fingers and toes because....

The spider must act quickly. She quickly injects her venom into the strangely shaped prey, rendering it immobile but still alive. It will serve her babies well as a fresh food source while they grow large enough to become independent and can fend for themselves. But first she herself must feed so that she will have the strength to fulfill her million year old maternal instincts.

Having consumed the still warm pulsing fresh meat, the spider quickly tears off the cloth that is covering the moist cavity in the prey that she has determined to be the optimum location to deposit her egg sac. She works quickly for she feels the eggs inside her, already enlivened by the energy of her recent meal start to squirm and rustle.

The spider's work is done. It has laid its egg sac inside the soft fleshy cavity of the prey and all it needs to do now is wait. Despite no sun or moonlight penetrating the attic the spider knows exactly how many days have past since egg sac depositing, and how many days are yet to come. Occasionally it will inject some more venom into the prey when it seems to be waking in agony but other than that it lies still and conserves its energy. Already it can see that the eggs are swelling and growing larger than expected, no doubt due to the rich flesh infused in their yolks from their mother's most recent meal. This clutch of babies will start their lives with the advantage of size and health.

the way this is going, even my garage wouldnt be safe, and i thought the Defender rust was the scariest thing in there... proper grim stuff mate, nowt like a bit of attic horror to put you off tidying up the rafters.

The time has come. The spider's instinct tells her that her children have come out of their eggs and are even now ravenously feeding on the warm life giving flesh of the prey. Soon they will exit through the same meat tunnel their mother had deposited them in, while other little ones will continue to feed deeper inside the prey before eating their way out in every direction. The spider knows instinctively that it's task is done, and after a few days staying close protecting her children she will scuttle off into a dark corner and die. But her children will begin their lives with every advantage a mother spider could bestow, and if the spider mother had any semblance of human emotion it would be the hope that her children, when their time comes will find an equally strange yet nourishing prey for their own eggs.





















And luckily the prey is still alive and warm, providing ample food for every one of the little spider children as their kind eat nothing but living flesh.
