Audrey Jones was a professor at the university of science and had been working for the last few months on the miniaturization of biological matter, often working 18 hour days, even on weekends. Her work was classified, and she didn't tell her girlfriend, a graduate student at the university, anything about it, though one evening when the two were discussing fantasies, she brought it up and her girlfriend said that she often imagined being a shrunken lover.

Audrey finally perfected the device and had created one small enough to conceal in a backpack. Bringing it home one afternoon much earlier than she normally gets home, she caught her girlfriend with a first-year student coed. In her fury, she pulled the device out of her backpack and shrunk both women. She grabbed them up off the floor before they could recover from their shock and carried them over to an empty cage.

As she put them into the cage and latched the door, she just smiled down at her shocked girlfriend and the terrified younger woman. "Don't let me interfere with your little trist, my little pets. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy each other from now on. And so will I."

Valerie had to pass microbiology 4 in order to graduate and move on to medical school, but she had slacked some and needed to get a high grade on her final in order to maintain her GPA. Desperate, she sought out Dexter, a nerd who was a computer wizard. She found him in the computer lab and seduced him into helping her, promising him ANYTHING if he would hack into the professor's computer and get her a copy of the final exam. Dexter started typing on the keyboard and fifteen minutes later, a copy of the final exam spilled out of his printer.

Dexter looked at Valarie and said, "Now, you said anything?

Valarie responded, "Get a grip, boy. You can't say anything about this as you would be in even bigger trouble than me if anyone found out."

Dexter said, "Yeah, I know. Just glad I could help. Hey, while you're here, I want to show you something really cool in the microbiophysiology lab."

Reluctantly, she agreed and he led her to the lab, opened the door and showed her into one of the rooms containing a very strange looking machine.

"Now", he said, "Just stand right there while I set this thing up." He fiddled with some dials and typed some commands into the computer than said, "You ready for this?" I pulled a lever and a light shot out of the end of the machine, enveloping Valarie in a green glow.

"Wow", she exclaimed. "This is cool. I feel all tingly."

She didn't notice she was shrinking until Dexter turned off the machine. When the light dissipated, Valarie was five inches tall. Dexter stepped over to her and stood over her. She craned her head all the way back to look up at him, falling backwards onto her rump. Dexter reached down and wrapped his fingers around her tiny but gorgeous body and lifted her into the air. Holding her in the palm of his hand, he began to remove her clothing with the other.

Smiling down at his tiny captive, Dexter said, "Like you said, no one can know about any of this or both of us will be in big trouble. You rat on me, I rat on you. I lose my job, you lose your scholarship and admittance to medical school. Now, let's have a little, pardon the pun, fun."

Grandma Stevens had been living alone in her big old Victorian home since her husband died ten years ago. Her kids tried to get her to sell it and buy something smaller (probably to increase their inheritance when she dies) but she refused. Her daughter told her to stop telling her grandchildren stories about the little people who live in house. She said it's silly and just messes with their imagination. Grandma reluctantly agreed. Her daughter then asked her why she was wasting her time and money on those silly dollhouses she is always making. Grandma just told her that it was just a hobby, and she sells them at the local flea market. Her daughter told her that it was still silly and a waste of time and money. Grandma just sighed and ignored her. When her daughter gathered up her children and left, Grandma walked over one of the dollhouses, a recreation of a local coffee shop.

"Okay, she's gone now." A tiny figure stood up from behind the counter. Madalyne, a borrower that lives within the walls and beneath the floorboards, stepped onto Grandma's hand and Grandma carried her onto the porch. Setting her down on the table, Grandma went into the kitchen and got two cups of tea, one normal sized and one smaller than a thimble.

"You think your daughter will ever believe I exist?"

"I doubt it. She's rather frumpy and doesn't appreciate the............ little things in life."

Catching Borrowers

Hayanna had been "borrowing" for several years and now as a young adult, she is permitted to venture out on her own. It had been easy when only the old grandmother lived in the house, but since her granddaughter and her son moved in, it had been more of a challenge. Hayanna could only leave her family's home beneath the floorboards at night now, but she still thought she was good enough that she could easily evade discovery and had gotten a little overconfident. One night, while crossing the living room, a light suddenly came on and she found herself trapped by the hands of the boy. She knew she couldn't run and obviously trying to fight would be futile. The boy flattened one of his hands on the ground and began to push her towards it with his other hand, forcing her closer and closer to capture.........



The recent heatwave and draught had left the lawn with many areas bare of grass. Hanna had gone outside to drink a cup of orange juice to enjoy the coolness of the morning. She saw something moving out of the corner of her eye, turned and saw a "borrower" scurrying across the bare earth. Dumping out her drink, she took three steps and scooped the terrified tiny girl into the cup.

Haley's little brother had always been a brat and ever since she was shrunk in a lab accident at the university, he had become unbearable. This morning at breakfast as her mother told them she had to go out for a while and behave themselves, Haley watched as her brother began to load up a new Nerf dart gun. She knew it was gonna be a long day.

The following would make a good story for one of the gifted writers on this forum:

Kaydyn had been watching the young bean boy for the last hour playing with his toys from beneath the couch. Borrowing had been easy with only Mrs. Crampton living in the house where Kaydyn and her family live beneath the floorboards, but when her daughter and grandson arrived for a visit, things got more complicated. The boy, she had learned his name was James, had heard tales of the "Borrowers" from his grandmother and had searched the house frequently trying to find one. He had nearly spotted her twice, but she was able to duck through one of the many vents or escape holes in the floor. This morning, the boy had gotten up early and Kaydyn was stuck on the wrong side of the living room from any of the escape holes so she had just been sitting quietly watching the bean boy play. His mother and grandmother had awakened and were in the kitchen making breakfast. Kayden heard them saying they would be going home after breakfast which Kaydyn was happy to hear, even though she had been enjoying the adventure of borrowing with the ever-looming threat of discovery by the boy. Then she heard the mother call the boy to breakfast and he got up and went into the kitchen. Now, she thought, is her chance to get away. Kaydyn started to run across the living room floor to a vent on the opposite side, when she saw a Hersey kiss on the floor near the bean boy's camper toy. Kaydyn loves chocolate and Mrs. Crampton rarely had any in the house so she couldn't resist the urge to grab it. Just as she got to the camper, the mother walked into the room. Too far from any furniture, Kaydyn ducked inside the camper to hide until the mother left the room. To her shock, instead of leaving, the mother snapped the two halves of the camper together, trapping Kaydyn inside.




She picked up the camper and put it inside James' backpack and zipped it shut. Kaydyn crawled out of the camper through the window, but she was unable to unzip the zipper. She had lost her rope and knife when the mother closed the clamshell like camper so she couldn't cut her way out either. Searching through the interior of the backpack, she was unable to find anything to facilitate an escape. Then she felt the backpack being picked up and she could sense it was being carried outside and put into the car. Now in a near panic, she tugged at the zipper pull as hard as she could, but she still couldn't get it to budge.



After a short period of time, she heard the car doors open and the car moved slightly as James and his mother got in. The car started and pulled onto the road. It seemed like hours that they were driving before the car finally stopped, she heard the doors open and the backpack was picked up and carried into the house, then from the mild jolting she was getting, up a flight of stairs, then dropped onto a soft and bouncy surface, most likely a bed. Kaydyn got back into the camper, hoping the bean boy would take it out of the pack and put it somewhere so she could escape without being seen. After another couple hours, she saw daylight as the zipper opened and the camper was lifted out of the backpack. Scrunching down under a "table" in the camper, Kaydyn waited for her chance to escape, but James abruptly opened the camper, and she tumbled out of it and onto the bed. Looking up, she saw James looking down on her, wide-eyed with wonder and excitement.

"Wow, oh wow. Grandma wasn't telling stories. Little people do exist and now I have one of my own." He half turned towards the door and called out, "Mom, come and see......"

Kaydyn interrupted him, "No, no, no. Please don't tell anyone about me. Please !!!"

"What do you want, James", his mother answered.

"Never mind. It's nothing." James replied. He then put his hand down, palm up on the bed next to Kaydyn. She looked at the hand, then at him, then back to his hand.

Relationships between Borrowers and Beans were strictly forbidden in the early days, especially between opposite sexes. Aryanna and James had to be very discrete to avoid their parents finding out they were seeing each other, utilizing this old mouse hole as a convenient spot for a rendezvous.

Thank you. I've been infatuated with the concept of "borrowers" since I saw the original movie when I was 11. But what I never understood then and now, 50 years later, is why the "beans" considered them vermin or at least subhuman.

For me is was the trailer for Secret World of Arrietty that started my obsession. I remember recently I saw a random clip of like 2 seconds from that movie and it still gave me tingles just watching Arrietty move around the "giant" environment like that~

If I recall correctly in all the interpretations of the story I've seen, the beans don't actually know about the borrowers' existence as they're exceptionally good at keeping themselves hidden, even going so far as to relocate to a different house if there's even a chance of being discovered. But lets be honest, there is no way they'd realistically be able to stay hidden for long.

True, in the storylines, most people don't know of their existence, but in all three of the major The Borrowers movies, once they were discovered, the adult beans wanted to kill them. In the first movie 1973, they released a ferret under the floorboards, in the second 1998, John Goodman tried to kill them by burning them with hot foam then drowning them in melted cheese and in the latest 2011, the professor said he was going to "humanely" euthanize the captured father and mother borrower and dissect them.

Trying to maintain some sense of normalcy, April's parents insisted on continuing the tradition of family game night after she had been miniaturized. April, being too tiny to maneuver her game piece, had to become her own game piece. However, her brother is sometimes a little reckless with the dice, occasionally causing the "Game of Life" to be a bit physical for her.

The new girl in school was quite egocentric and readily spoke her mind so when Rebecca Thorton, the daughter of the famed Microbiophysiologist, Professor Thorton, told her and two of her friends about her father's matter miniaturizer, she laughed at her, saying that it was impossible to change the size of matter. Rebecca snuck the device out of the house one day and when she and her friends found the new girl alone in the lab, Rebecca shrunk her. Grabbing the now tiny, terrified girl, she said, "So changing the size of matter is impossible, huh?" Getting the last laugh, she decided to restore the girl to her normal size when she realized the batteries were dead and it would take a week to get new ones.

Rebecca said, "Shit, what are we gonna do with her for a week?"

Her friend replied, "Well, my hamster died a month ago and I still have the cage........"

Ever since my girlfriend got miniaturized in the lab accident at the university, we haven't been going out too much. Usually, we just watch some movies or something on TV and since it's been rather warm lately, clothing has become optional. This evening, she was lying on my lap after taking off her doll clothes, which she hates to wear anyway, while was absentmindedly giving her a "massage". She was whining about getting bored and interrupting the movie.




Finally, I had had enough. I lifted the waist band of my shorts and pushed her inside my shorts.



Well, at least I wasn't bored.

Borrowing was easy when only Grandma Jones lived in the house, but ever since her daughter and grandson moved in, Madalyne had to be much more careful. Only borrowing at night, no shoes to make any noise and only carrying the bare minimum of gear.....rope, backpack and straight pin and keeping her long hair pulled back with a small clip she borrowed from somewhere. One night, she was searching the cupboards above the kitchen sink when the light suddenly came on. The bean boy had come into the kitchen and was walking right towards her. No where to run or even hide and too high up to jump, she froze in place as the boy turned on the faucet, then reaching up to grab a glass, he spotted her. He just stood there for a moment, then turned off the water and reached towards her, his hand pinning her against the can of beans, then gently slipping behind and around her. Her arms were pinned to her sides and she couldn't even grab her pin to defend herself. His hand closed around her and lifted her off the shelf.



But he didn't squish her. He didn't seem to want to eat her. He carried her into his room and closed the door. Then he slowly tilted palm up and his fingers opened to allow her to sit in his hand. He smiled at her and said, "Hi. I'm James. It's nice to finally formerly meet you."

Confused, she replied with a shaky voice, "My name is Madalyne. Finally meet me?"

"I've seen you many times, under the couch while I was lying on the floor watching television. Grandma or Mom were always around, and I didn't want then to know you were there, so I never said or did anything."

"You're not going to eat me are you?"

"Yuck. Of course not."

They talked for about an hour, then he asked her if she wanted something to eat."



The bean boy carried Madalyne into the kitchen and set her down on the table. He got a plate from a cupboard and put several cookies on the plate, breaking one of them into "borrower sized" pieces, and setting it on the table he got a glass of milk and joined Madalyne. She asked him how she was supposed to drink out of a glass big enough to bathe in. James laughed softly and took a bottle of water out of the fridge, removed the cap and brought it to the table. He dipped the cap into the milk and handed it to Madalyne.



After finishing the cookies and milk, Madalyne told James she needed to go home. Not knowing what he was thinking about, she was a bit apprehensive when he set his hand down on the table, palm up. She hesitated a moment, then slowly climbed on top of his hand. He cautiously raised his hand up and carried the tiny girl into the living room, then knelt down in front of the couch and lowered his hand to the floor. As she stepped off of his hand, he handed her a wrapped hard candy. She gave him one last look, then a smile, then disappeared under the couch, towards the floor vent where she would go under the floorboards of the house to the space where she and her family lived.
