Robbie came from a small town in the hills. He had had numerous run-ins with the law from his petty thefts and scams. Becky was born in a similar town not too far away and had made her living as a con artist but had never been caught. She had no social security number, no driver's license and had never worked for a paycheck, so she never existed on paper. It was inevitable the two would meet and fall in love, as well as combining their talents to make a living.
One fateful day, while walking along a secluded country road near a laboratory complex, they came across a bad accident. Two cars had collided and went off the road. Both drivers were deceased. While checking one of the drivers, Robbie saw a name tag on his lab coat reading "Professor Manfred von Geeblestein, Microbiophysiology Department". Looking around the car's interior, he saw a metal case. Thinking it may have some value, he grabbed it and he and Becky went on their way, leaving no trace that they had ever been there.
Once they got back to their tiny apartment, Robbie jimmied the lock on the case and found a strange looking device inside. It looked like something out of a sci-fi movie. As he played with it, he touched a button and a bright light emitted from the end. Becky, who had just entered the room was engulfed by the light and disappeared. At least, Robbie thought she had disappeared. He jumped up and ran to the door where he found her clothing in a pile. He began to rummage through her clothes and found Becky, unconscious and a mere five inches tall. He picked her up and began saying her name and rubbing her chest with his fingertip. She began to stir, then groggily opened her eyes just to see a giant face looking down at her. She screamed and tried to run, falling off of Robbie's hand. Before she hit the ground, he caught her and held her firmly in his hand until she settled down. He explained to her about the thing he found in the case. Setting her down on the kitchen table, he retrieved the machine and examined closer. He found a dial that had marking in percentages, from 1% to 200%. Setting the dial to 100%, he pointed the device at Becky and pressed the same button again. The light flashed again, and Becky was now sitting on the table, full size again but butt naked.
The two miscreants immediately realized this device could make them rich, but how? If they tried to sell it or return it for a reward, they would be busted for stealing it in the first place. And they thought it was probably some governmental black ops thing and they would probably "disappear". After some time of brainstorming, they came up with an idea.......
Becky would be shrunk, and they would say she came from a previously unknown world of tiny people. She had run off from her home, met and fell in love with the giant Robbie. As she had been lost when Robbie found her, she could never find her way back to her people. Then, they developed an act, a circus act. Becky would perform as an acrobat, a lion tamer (using a kitten as the lion, of course) and a clown. She would have small circus toys for a backdrop and as props and the finale would be a ballon drop. She would kick the giant balloons off the stage as the audience applauded. She would even let people, for a fee of course, take a selfie with her sitting on their shoulder or in the palm of their hand. They started small, performing in local towns, but soon the word got out about their show, and they began to perform for wealthy people and political figures. Eventually, they were traveling the world, performing for heads of state and royal families. They were raking in the dough now and thought they were on the road to easy street. Between shows, Robbie would restore Becky to normal size, and they would spread their money on the bed and have crazy frenzied sex.
What they didn't know was that the governmental agency that created the device had figured out that Robbie and Becky had the device, but since it was in fact, a "Black Ops" program, they couldn't come forward and reclaim it. An agent had been following Robbie and Becky ever since their "flea circus" show was made known.
The two con artists were set to play a gig at the royal family residence in a small Eastern European country. Becky went through her "lion tamer" act, then the trapeze performance, then for the final act, the clown show. At the end, the balloons dropped, but they settled on the stage and didn't get kicked off. Robbie walked up to the stage to find Becky............gone.
A search of the palace failed to locate Becky. Robbie stayed in the small country, hoping she would be found. A few weeks later, he found a manilla envelope on his apartment door. Inside were photographs of Becky being subjected to unspeakable torments. Some of the photographs showed her in a cage, in some she was bound with string, and in others she was taped naked to a desk and being sexually abused. A piece of paper with a date, time and GPS coordinates was also in the envelope. Robbie still loved her and desperately wanted her back. So, on the day printed on the paper, he drove to the GPS coordinates at the time indicated and waited. Two nondescript black cars pulled up and several men dressed in black business suits got out. Robbie demanded to see Becky. One of the men retrieved a small bird cage from the back seat of the car. He approached Robbie, just close enough for him to see his Becky. Naked, bruised and disheveled, she was crying hysterically. Robbie turned and walked back to his car, pulled out the metal case and set it on the ground. He opened it to show the device was there. "Now, let her go, I'll make her normal size again and we'll go our way, and you go yours." Wrong. One of the men pulled an air pistol from under his jacket and fired it at Robbie. Robbie looked down and saw a dart protruding from the right side of his chest. His vision blurred and he fell to the ground.
When he woke up, he found himself in a jail cell. No, not a jail cell, he was in a cage. He heard someone calling his name and he looked to see Becky in a cage next to his. He ran to the side of the cage and stretched his arm through the bars towards her. She reached back for him, only to find their fingertips falling just short of touching.
Robbie and Becky spent the rest of their lives like this. Together, but apart, able to see each other, but to never be within each other's arms again.
