What happens to old topics?

What happens to old topics?

I've noticed that a topics (at least on the VSW board, haven't checked others) seem to disappear after having no interaction for 4 years, are they moved somewhere/archived or are they gone forever?

I think it was 5 years, but apart from that, they are gone forever.

(Well if you are lucky the internet archive might still have them)
