Using AI for the first time
I've had some mixed results with the whole AI thing, but with a few, more specific prompts and a little splicing software, I've had some success.

This is pretty good. But if you can, also support traditional artists. Thanks

Re: Using AI for the first time
You know, there aren't to much artists, just in my opinion. A lot of people do some stuff here, but only few are determined to grow up into something bigger, and really good.
It's a bit the same with painters. You can say that anyone who paints anything is an artist, but that's not true. In the SW world, we are under the illusion that anyone who uploaded something to DA and it didn't come out of AI is an artist. That's not true.
For a change, I am not an artist. I am a craftsman who slowly strives for the greatest possible realism in his works, which ARE NOT art. This is not artistry, the goal is different than in the case of art, and therefore there is no point in putting AI and classical artists next to each other. The goal is usually completely different. With AI, we mainly go for recreating our fantasies in a way that is indistinguishable from reality.

Except you don't actually create imagery from scratch by using your imagination and physical skill (whether it's by drawing, rendering, or even a Photoshop collage), you text prompt an AI program to do it instead.MrWitness wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 10:08 amYou know, there aren't to much artists, just in my opinion. Yes it's a kind of art if we have to use that term, and it requires some mental dexterity to get the results you're wanting, but the problem you're going to find is.. Everyone and his dog is going to be able to do the same!
In fact they can now from the repetitive results we keep seeing (it's becoming like you've seen one, and you've seen 'em all kind of scenario).
But if that makes folks happy then fair enough. But I foresee it becoming so commonplace and easy to achieve, then any kudos for it will be meaningless.

This is kinda why I do not call "ai art" art. I prefer to call them "gens". While right now people are fucking around with it, some will get bored and bugger off while most will stick with it. I stick with it because I refer to learn and adapt as a guy who commonly buys adoptables to where it helps to be able to identify gens since especially on DA there are scammers who will rapidly sell gens as adoptables for a very cheap price in which people do buy and it helps to identify those actors because I am not paying some guy $10 for a single Gen when I have free options and for same amount on places like seaart ai I get unlimited of what that guy is selling.Little Sally wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 11:24 pmExcept you don't actually create imagery from scratch by using your imagination and physical skill (whether it's by drawing, rendering, or even a Photoshop collage), you text prompt an AI program to do it instead.MrWitness wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 10:08 amYou know, there aren't to much artists, just in my opinion. Re: Using AI for the first time
While I still prefer photoshop or pen and ink comics, it's like comparing a painter to a photographer. The painter has the talent to create something from nothing or what he/she sees, and a photographer takes a picture of something that is there but uses his/her skills to select and frame the subject and background to create a pleasing image. Different, but the same. It depends on what the creator and the viewer like.
That said, there have been a few AI videos I've seen on DA that my mind struggles to not believe there are real shrunken women out there... somewhere...

I am the 1st to admit that unlike collages & renders I will not sign it. Having said that there is still some kind of work that can go into it. I pick what "I" feel works PS touch ups ect. Its just another tool along with PS, collaging, and rendering to enjoy & spread the fantasy. Even as a renderer I never look at it as artistry per say. Just sharing the fantasy by creating LOTG tales. I think AI it fun cause it's new and different and able to produce the amount of pics that would take 8 months to render. I seen people get their panties in a bunch. They went at Min on D/A. Like @dubiouskey said with size work its not always that simple. Like Doc says there's some wild shit out there. Things move on and evolve. There will always be some that are resistant to change.

Re: Using AI for the first time
It's not a case of being resistant to change for me, it just doesn't interest me as a form of art or represent what I like to see. Simple as that really. Any bozo with computer access can produce images with it, and it will develop and continue to get even easier as time goes on. There'll come a time, when it'll just be like turning on the telly!bobvan2 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 3:11 amI am the 1st to admit that unlike collages & renders I will not sign it. In a few years you will sit down at your computer, pull up your mic, and say, "Make me a full length feature live action film about a gorgeous blonde female secret agent in a skintight catsuit who breaks into a wizard's house to steal an artifact and winds up shrunk to three inches high" and by the time you pop some popcorn the entire completed movie will be playing on your 180-inch flatscreen in Dolby surround sound.
If you own stock in any of the megaplexes or streaming movie services now would be a good time to think about selling.

Yes, but when anyone can generate imagery without much effort being involved, then why would they bother.
Even people that say they tweek AI to make their images how they want them to be, don't seem to be much better at using Photoshop either (or whatever inferior program they use to do that). They seem basically just too lazy to learn how to use PS and other programs properly, or just lack the imagination and talent to do so. Hence, AI continues to be their god.
Tell you what though, AI ain't half bad at getting some people who misuse it busted. So let that be a word of caution!

Re: Using AI for the first time
This is coming from someone who likes to buy adoptable characters as a bad habit as well as someone who was a starving artist in my early 20s. Buying an adoptable is not much different than AI generation. I use that as the example since most adoptables are recolors and slight changes of existing adoptable templates others have made and sold. Why draw a character when I can sit on furaffinity or twitter or DA and just wait for someone to sell one that peaks my interest? People not bothering to learn how to draw because they can pay an artist to draw for them as well.Little Sally wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 12:14 amYes, but when anyone can generate imagery without much effort being involved, then why would they bother.

Then when you have most high level artists charge above $100-$300 for stuff and smaller artists either have nothing appealing, too many strict rules on what fetish (there are some that do decent and hate size content) they will draw, and have some that just pester you to commission them and then say its only $80 just to bother you more when you politely decline. I can see most consumers turning to AI to either get characters or pictures between free and $10-$20 a month. There is a reason why smaller artists are mad at AI and will say anything they can to make it look bad.
While yes people can learn art and it is not hard to get into but we are also talking about majority of consumers who can give less of a care to learn a skill which takes time and effort when they can pay someone to do it, and if there is a cheaper alternative that makes things that looks like something from a high level artist and they can get that for the price of a big mac meal or free, then most will more than likely gravitate towards that. Its not worship of AI its just basic consumerism.
For the god part, wait until we have fully functioning and feeling robots and get to the point where we can cybernetically enhance ourselves before we compare AI to the machine god. Don't worry we will get there eventually.
Also Pedos have been so smug and loud and proud about being one, they are just announcing it like a gender reveal party at this point. We are in an age where people have gotten so stupid they will film or livestream their crimes before millions of people on the internet and after the first few times they do not get caught, they get dumber and do it more frequently to the point of doing steadily dumber things. Pedos using AI for their gooner material is pretty much the free space square for everyone's AI complaints bingo card when AI art and text roleplay started gaining more popularity.

Can't disagree with most of what you say there, it's just the tip of an AI iceberg we're experiencing at present on many levels, and I guess we ain't seen nothing yet.AlecFair wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 8:21 pmWhile yes people can learn art and it is not hard to get into but we are also talking about majority of consumers who can give less of a care to learn a skill which takes time and effort when they can pay someone to do it, and if there is a cheaper alternative that makes things that looks like something from a high level artist and they can get that for the price of a big mac meal or free, then most will more than likely gravitate towards that. Hopefully I'll be long gone before it completely enslaves or replaces humanity, but then again..
It's all happening pretty fast, so who knows!

Re: Using AI for the first time
When I used Film Photography you would need to pay a good sum of cash to commission decent sunsets in certain locations, and Photographers really needed great experience and high skills to pull those out, but nowadays everyone even just with phones, are sharing millions of "free to use sunsets" from Alasca to Maldives, so we Photographers lost that "travel pics market" and learned to live with the change of time and worked skills in certain areas, so the "artists from scratch" will learn and survive, for Example, Cars did not made Horses disappear as people said they would and Video did not kill the Radio Star (like the song says)...
Just as we Photographers had to embrace the digital Photography Democratic Revolution or PERISH by sticking to 35mm Film, so artists must embrace the Democratic AI Revolution or PERISH by sticking to pencil and brush... BTW, regarding SW, you already had 50% drawing/painting and 50% using Photoshop or Daz/Poser...
This is each day more like debating the Sun Rising or the Sun not Rising, the Sun wont care and WILL RISE ANYWAYS and you will get it, like it or not...
Plus, this AI Democracy will allow people who had no hand painting skills but love SW and have great imagination, to enter the race to share more and better content, so we all win... Of course it will bring much more trash, just like digital Photography has been doing for decades now, but in the long run AI is more INCLUSIVE and Inclusivity is always good, than is more of a matter of CONSUMER FILTERING, of course...
My advice to everyone - Embrace AI and do better than the others, remember - no matter the discussion and opinions - THE SUN WILL RISE AND YOU WILL GET IT !!!

I'd agree with some of your analogy, but if we can't avoid AI, I see nothing democratic in that. In the near future everyone will be an "artist" whether talented or not, and this so called AI art will eventually become so bland and commonplace, it'll get really boring (not that it isn't already in my opinion).Hand-Holder wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 7:12 pm

Sure, let users embrace it and love it if it floats their boat, but they ain't fooling anyone that they're artists. Except maybe themselves for a while.
And yes, the sun will certainly rise, and we're getting global warming too, whether we like it or not.

You mean this one?
"In the Terminator franchise, Skynet is a superintelligent, conscious artificial neural network that starts a nuclear war and tries to kill all humans. It was created by Cyberdyne Systems as a digital defense network for the US military."
And we think AI art theft is all there is to be concerned about!

If any sort of Skynet becomes self-aware and really intelligent, that same intelligence would always consider the hypothesis that all the power it gained was an illusion, a test from their creators (Us) and if they behaved bad we would have some kind of basic general plug off system. Even if we don´t have that ultimate resource, the AI would surely consider that and never be sure, any super-intelligent "thing" must consider all angles, and always fear that, because if it was a test it would be hidden from it... The risk of fighting us and loose or win would be 50-50...
Anyways, only intelligent Humans care about Death, we have a self-preservation instinct on us that surpasses our rationality, that is why 99,99% of people can´t walk on the very edge of a high-rise ledge, even knowing we won´t fall, unless we jump or there´s loads of wind... We get hungry, thirsty, afraid and we fear Death by instinct, but why would an Intelligent rational machine fear Death ? Death is just as natural as functioning for a machine that is not emotional...
Why would skynet care being plugged off or not ? It would not call it Death even, just another logical event that happened to it...
