Ashley's scream stung me out of my thoughts. I saw her standing, paralyzed with fear and the snake coiled to strike. I rolled and knife handed my hand down between her and it just at it struck. It bit the back of my hand, but being a nonvenomous snake, it didn't hurt me, just took off a little nick of skin. As Ashley was standing right next to my palm, I simply closed my hand around her and rolled to my other side to get my body between her and the snake in case it was still looking for a meal. It wasn't and I watched it slither away in the grass.
Ashley hadn't even moved during the entire incident. Now, I could feel her start to tremble, then a full on body shaking as she burst into tears. I held her to my chest and just let her cry it out. After a few minutes, she settled down and I peeled my hand back from my chest so she could sit in my palm.
"F*ck" she said. "I have never been so scared in my life. Before this, I would have caught that snake and played with it for a while, but......now anything bigger than an earthworm could eat me !!!!"
I stroked her hair with my fingertip, but she grabbed onto it and wrapped herself around it like she was hugging......me. Since she was no longer standing in my palm, I wrapped that hand around her and my finger, kind of a group hug, I guess. I just sat there on the grass for a while until she relaxed her grip around my finger, and I relaxed my grip around her.
Standing up, I started the walk back to the house with my little girl sitting in my hand.

For some reason, all the images on this thread have disappeared. (Yes, I had selected the No Expiration option) and I don't save my collages to save room on my computer, so I'm not continuing the story unless I find a way to get them back. Sorry......it was about to get juicy........
