I'll have to go over this in more detail some other time. But it looks like it encompasses more than pulp covers, including comic books, movie posters, and even VHS tape cases. (And if you go through all seven pages, you'll see that there's some duplication.)Little Sally wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:24 pmI seem to remember you were expert at finding pulp cover art back in the day.Godforgives,Idon't wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 7:35 am

Yes I'm sure you're right. I think it broadened out into including movie posters and the like, and covers from more modern publications. And it's understandable things get duplicated when there are quite a few people contributing material.Godforgives,Idon't wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 6:18 am

It's interesting you say about some of the stories being "letdowns", and I've heard that mentoned before. It's like the cover artists were given free licence to interpret the contents themselves, or maybe encouraged to make the covers attractive to male readers (kind of like the click bait of its day). But whatever the reasons, it's interesting what was acceptable to portray on those old pulp covers back then, which is so different than what it's like today.Godforgives,Idon't wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 6:18 amI have some of these pulps (as well as others that aren't pictured in this thread) and I can tell you that some of them were "letdowns", Either the cover artist didn't read the story very closely (like "The Return of Sathanas") or there's no story to go with the cover art (like the issue of Amazing Stories with the "SW's growing on trees" cover). I found this out not by finding stuff online, but by buying the pulps (usually through eBay) and reading the stories.

But it's obvious that sometimes they didn't read the story closely, because it's a minor detail. Like "Bottle Baby", the cover story for the April 1957 issue of Fantastic Science Fiction. The SW should be a blonde, not a brunette. (She's also supposed to be nude, but of course, they couldn't show that.)Little Sally wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 8:56 amIt's interesting you say about some of the stories being "letdowns", and I've heard that mentoned before. They were before my time too. Before the Internet, seeing a pulp magazine "in person" was rare. The first time for me was in January 1992, on my birthday, actually. I was in Merlin's Books in Tampa, which has been gone for over 20 years. Merlin's was a comic book store. It was a used book store. They had Arkham House books, new on the shelf. (I bought a few from Merlin's, including buying one that day.) They sold roleplaying games and accessories. They sold costumes for re-enactments. And they had an issue of Weird Tales. It was from the 1930's, with a cover by Margaret Brundage, so it was very expensive, and was kept in a locked glass case. (Same with Camelot Books and Gifts keeping the 1967 issue of Startling Mystery Stories with Stephen King's first professionally published short story, "The Glass Floor", which isn't in any of his collections, in a locked glass case.) Sometime in the spring of 1993, I was in a comic book store in Orlando called Cartoon Museum. They had some issues of Weird Tales from the 1940's and the 1950's, which were in boxes, so you could actually handle them. (Though they were in clear plastic bags that were taped shut.) Not as expensive as the one from the 1930's, but still out of my price range. I actually did buy three issues of Weird Tales before the Internet, through an ad in the magazine Toy Shop, sometime in 1994. I got the September 1953 issue (the first digest-sized issue), the July 1954 issue (the next-to-last issue) and the September 1954 issue (the final issue). You could tell that the end was coming. The final two issues reused cover artwork from earlier issues. And all three issues included reprints of stories from the 1920's and the 1930's. But the Internet, especially eBay, as well as places like AbeBooks, Alibris and bBiblio, which are all basically "bulletin boards" for used book stores, have made pulp magazines more readily available and affordable.Little Sally wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 8:56 amThe stuff was way before my time to see it on the shelves (to buy and read), so it's good to know you managed to get hold of some. And at your own expense as you've said. Which I don't suppose many were aware of at the time.
But you saw what happened with Dorian. It reminds me of something that happened when I was in the fifth grade (1977 to 1978). I was reading a library book in English class because it was due that day. My English teacher took it away from me, and told me that I would get it back the next day. So I told her that she could pay the overdue fine. She took me to the principal's office and paddled me herself. (Teachers probably can't do that now.)Little Sally wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 8:56 amHey, it's good to vent.Godforgives,Idon't wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 6:18 am(A quote from my mom: "Bobby is the supreme grudge holder.".)
But are you going to get me banned again? I'm definitely going to be necroposting again, though not as much as I did in 2012. Looking at some of the old threads, it looks like you all have forgotten so much. Like in the "SW in Books" thread, there's no mention of the book sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit with Jessica Rabbit's sister Joellyn, who's only a few inches tall. (She's even on the front cover, perched on Eddie Valiant's shoulder) Or the children's books Among the Dolls and The Would-Be Witch, which I read in the 1970's, one checked out of the library, the other one ordered through the school book club when I was in the fourth grade. (And hopefully it's still in the storage facility somewhere.)Little Sally wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 8:56 amYou might want to consider registering as a member on here, which should make posting links and images easier. I found The Lost Saucer episode, but the Bugaloos, I'll have to go to Tubi for that.Godforgives,Idon't wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 9:38 amKeeping this thread on topic:
Sid and Marty Krofft's The Bugaloos "Today I'm a Firefly" ("You can't do this to me! I'm a big girl now!")
Sid and Marty Ktofft's The Lost Saucer "The Tiny Years" (RIP Ruth Buzzi)
Yes, you'd be able to post active links and pics (as well as edit and do other stuff). So I'd say it's worthwhile being a member and you've nothing to lose.Godforgives,Idon't wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 9:31 am
If I became a member, would I be able to post working links? I have a feeling that most people aren't watching the YouTube videos that I've mentioned, because they have to search for them by title. I also don't like not being able to edit my posts, either to add something that I forgot, or to correct typos.
No, I don't even know half the websites you mentioned. But I'm actually leaving this forum now. Between the poor site performance and the mods apparently having no issue letting someone with a known history of sociopathic behavior in, I don't think this forum is for me.Godforgives,Idon't wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 8:07 amP.S. I agree with your frustration on both. Do you have another forum in mind for the same subject matter?BryTheGuy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:22 pmNo, I don't even know half the websites you mentioned. I agree, the guy in question is clearly not right in the head, collecting little grievances to fuel his ragin victimhood/narcissism complex with them.BryTheGuy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:22 pmNo, I don't even know half the websites you mentioned. I am not a sociopath. One of my former next door neighbors at Brewer's Bridgeway (HUD apartments for mentally ill people) was a sociopath. He would not let me turn on my air conditioner if he and his buddies were outside. (And I live in Florida.) The one time that I did, right after I turned on the air conditioner, there was pounding on my front door. Not knocking. Pounding. I was afraid to open the door. I turned off the air conditioner, and again dared turn it on if Ricky was outside. He also spread lies about me, and threatened to report me to the HRS. Ricky's mother was a sociopath too. One of the other original residents of Brewer's Bridgeway was a gay black man. Ricky's mother called him a queer nigger. She spit on him. She hit him. The rental agent and the property manager wouldn't do anything about it. (And the rental agent was black. But obviously he didn't have any loyalty to his own race.) Rod had to move out. They wouldn't do anything about Ricky or his mother until he tryed to murder his wife. Then they finally kicked him out. I assume that Ricky's mother moved out when he did, too late for Rod.BryTheGuy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:22 pmNo, I don't even know half the websites you mentioned. You must not be reading all of my posts. I HAVE been contributing content since I first started posting here nearly two months ago, on July 8th. Besides this thread, also see the "SW in Western Animation Compilation" thread, the "SW in anime Compilation" the "Pulp SW" thread, the thread "The Little People (1967), and also, in the "Introductions" sub-forum, the "Seriously?" thread. It's mostly been cartoons and TV shows, but I also recently discovered the short story "A Smaller Government", in which the White House gets shrunk. (Though there's no guarantee of SW content.) And it looks like this story was originally published in 2007, long before our wonderful new President started talking about "shrinking the federal government".Nropyub wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 11:08 pmYou are on a website with tons of images and stories of tiny women with people who love images and stories of tiny women. I first got taken to a psychiatrist (and put on medication) in 1975, when I was seven years old. (I also was transferred to a private school for third grade and fourth grade, so I wouldn't be around a lot of people. But after that I was back in the public school system until I graduated.) I even had an EEG. I can still remember the wires glued to my head. The diagnosis was "ADHD".pokonota wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 4:10 amI agree, the guy in question is clearly not right in the head, collecting little grievances to fuel his ragin victimhood/narcissism complex with them.
I didn't say anything in case he'd just stop, but he clearly needs to see a psychiatrist, not posting here and collecting more little grievances in the process
