Re: Gen V Season 2
I don't even care about nudity. I'm just hoping to see some good handhelds with Emma, grabbed in a loose fist or stuff like that. And maybe she gets a mission where she has to infiltrate some place by pretending to be a doll and given to someone. Kind of like in that old movie Devil Doll.Sdk3 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 24, 2025 8:23 pmI know some of that cultural shift of using male nudity as a punchline started a few years ago with some of the raunchy comedies coming out in the late 00s (ie. Forgetting Sarah Marshall).Nropyub wrote: ↑Wed Sep 24, 2025 8:02 pmI love The Boys and Gen V, but this is a major recurring issue I have with Kripke and pop culture in general.Sdk3 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 24, 2025 5:28 pmI don't want to diminish the enthusiasm of a shrinking woman in a major show, but The Boys almost seems contractually obligated to show male naughty bits. Yet, we saw two women shrink out of their clothes, and even comment on the inconvenience on the size change leaving them nude, and.....nothing.
People have learned to be more respectful of women's bodies and I think that's great and important. But I think men have been left behind in the body positivity movement and a part of that is that a woman's body is something to be respected, and a man's body is an acceptable punchline. Similarly an overweight woman is "big and beautiful" but an overweight man is still the butt of the joke.
I actually think that's a bigger reflection on the audience. Certain creators want to tell dirty jokes and make jokes about rape (The Boys Season 4) but they know that doing that to women is strictly unacceptable by the audience, so they don't. The audience doesn't protest nearly as much about it happening to men, so they do. It's not about what they think is okay, it's what the audience is actually gonna do something about.
Anyway, love the special effects. Emma is great and it was nice to see her have a little friend.
Don't get me wrong, nudity isn't a requirement for me to enjoy SW content. For example, I'm not expecting any in The Miniature Wife, as Elizabeth Banks doesn't do nudity. But, you'd think a show like The Boys might. Oh well.
So far, it seems like we've gotten the same effects out of this show as we've always gotten for decades. Giant props and green screen stuff. I guess those are easy and cheap to do. I've seen good handhelds and stuff in foreign shows, like Genie in the House from UK, Selena from Turkey and Mini Mimi from, I think, the Philippines. But it seems the US never does anything that good and always sticks with the same old, same old.
