He'd spent years dreading this moment, but he had no idea that it'd happen like this.
Even with his suit and gear updated after a trip to Tony Stark's laboratory, he wasn't fast enough. There would always be something menacing his friend, his lover, the reason he kept going, Mary Jane Watson. In this case, a rogue Doombot loose on Broadway, wildly firing a shrinkray from its glitched hands. There'd been stranger threats for certain, but this was the one that hit Mary Jane. He saw the blast, and immediately after, he'd managed to deactivate the Doombot with a single punch. He hadn't noticed that Mary Jane had escaped to a nearby alleyway in the commotion.

He never understood how the kindest, cutest, most compassionate, and sexiest woman in the multiverse ended up in his orbit, but as her voluptuous figure stood before him, he was all too aware of her fragility amidst the sea of weird shit that defined his life.
"Pete," she squeaked in a much higher voice than before, "Why are you so big,"
"I-it's not me that's big, MJ", he stammered.
"And why am I naked--" she said, stopping herself immediately upon the realization that she'd shrunk. In an instant Peter'd used his repaired web shooters to solve that problem, tapping lightly to cover her private parts with splotches of webbing.
"We'll get this sorted, honey, but at least that problem's solved?" He said, sheepishly. Mary Jane did not look amused, but she had substantially less small challenges ahead of her...
