Who else dares to write ???
Sometimes I wonder...
Is it possible that many people from this Community, have great ideas to develop stories, but are afraid their general writing skills are not that good ???
Are we loosing the chance to enjoy great creativity, not due to lack of imagination, but due to "writing shyness" ???
I was not at all into stories, Read or Write, when I landed here, but I learned to appreciate them a lot...
So my goal with this post is:
- If more people don´t write because they don´t have ideas or don´t like doing it, good, fair enough
- But if more people don´t write because they fear others will not enjoy or they don´t have elaborate training - CUT IF OFF, SIT YOUR ASS DOWN AND WRITE WHATEVER YOUR HEART AND SOUL FANCIES !!! YES, RIGHT NOWWW...
LOL

I have written a few books under the name "Hans Verkleiner." Some are short story collections (mostly some of my old stories with updates and better editing, but each includes at least one new work) while others are novels. You can find them on Amazon if you click here.
For those who already know about this, I've recently completed a novel length sequel to the story "The Diminishing Crystal" in volume 10 so expect to see a volume 11 soon...

No worries. That is why people invented LLMs.
Those can read the story for you.

Re: Who else dares to write ???
I enjoyed dozens and dozens of stories from here and only actually read 5% of the ones I fully enjoyed...
HOW ??? SIMPLE !!!
I always copy-paste stories to my free App "Text to Speach" and gladly listen to storIes, either at home doing chores or even outdoors, walkin with air-pops, 95% were enjoyed like that...

Re: Who else dares to write ???
My writing skills are amazing. Close to professional, one of the few things I'd actually be this full of myself and outspoken about in public. I'm usually very humble...but shiiiiiit, I can spin a yarn, lemme tell ya whut.
I've written and posted some stories...but took most of them down. There are a lot of ideas for short SW stories in my head. Perhaps one day I'll write and post them. (I kinda wanted to do like, short chapters here and there with an AI image to go along with them)

Re: Who else dares to write ???
I might as well speak up now: I do have plans to share some writing in the next year. So far, it's just me plotting out outlines for stories. So far, I got:
1. Ideas for a story that's a modern remake to The Reducer's "Beautiful Stranger/Barbie girl" stories
2. An non-official* sequel to Captain Ash's "Manmaker Mandy" comic. Oh man, there has been ideas cooking in my head for that one since I first read it.
I hope I can get those out sometime next year as my way of giving back to this community.

Admittedly I’ve been writing for years as a hobby but haven’t really dipped into SW but thought about it a few times.

Re: Who else dares to write ???
Though I'm focusing more on writing comics for ShrinkFan these days, I have a few self-published novels involving shrunken/shrinking women available on Amazon and other publishers. I additionally have a handful of short stories--mostly SW--at my DeviantArt page, some of which are NSFW, so you'd have to be logged in to view them.

Re: Who else dares to write ???
I wrote stories here for a while, but then I got busy with work and never really felt motivated to start writing again.
I have plenty of ideas in my head (along with the full arc of a story that I never finished), but I think that I fall into the "fear others will not enjoy" category. Honestly, I'm just not sure that other people care to read the stuff that I write, so I don't feel that I have much reason to expend the effort.

Re: Who else dares to write ???
Breaking my own rule here but if the discussion is on what motivates or keeps people from writing I figured I'd chime in.
I stopped writing when it became clear no one was reading anything and rather than encouragement most people who spoke up only did so to inform me that it wasn't their thing.
I write to share, enrich and connect. If no one wants to read, no one is enriched and people only want to connect to critisize then I'd rather keep my fantasies to myself.
But don't let me bring you guys down. We all write for our own reasons. I always support and encourage anyone who wants to write to write. I'm always super grateful for anyone who puts themselves out there to share.

Yes, lack of engagement is always a bummer. It is hard to tell if the problem is you or not.
Myself, I have lots of fragmentary ideas, but have a hard time putting them together - particularly finding an ending.

I don't see lack of engagement as a problem, when all you're basically trying to do is express your own imagination which won't always coincide with someone else's fantasies. Which means, you have to accept it won't attract the attention that you think it deserves.
I've started and written many things over the years that are my own personal imaginings, but most are unfinished and will probably remain that way. But the enjoyment I've gained from creating a story has been fulfilling whether I've finished it or not, and there's always that tease that maybe one day I will.
But that's way this creative pastime is. Occasionally fulfilling, but quite often frustrating.

Re: Who else dares to write ???
Managed to get started on a story years ago, just ran into a bad case of writer's block and never got around to following it up. Tried using AI to see some of my ideas put in writing at least, just left me dissatisfied though. Trying to get back to writing now but I don't know, just find it hard to keep my enthusiasm up with all these distractions.

We live in a Glorious New World of distractions, we have to learn to live with those, filter, filter, filter ..ensmallen wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 3:22 amManaged to get started on a story years ago, just ran into a bad case of writer's block and never got around to following it up. How do you guys measure the impact or engaement/ enjoyment of your writtings ?Raso719 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 4:47 pmBreaking my own rule here but if the discussion is on what motivates or keeps people from writing I figured I'd chime in.

Do you have metrics system to know if people read and like ???
Isn't it possible that you may think no one is reading and in fact loads of people is enjoying it ???
This board, for example, does not have a Like Button...
What I ask is basically, how close is your opinion about your story impact to actual reality ???

It's a difficult thing to measure since people rarely comment on other's works. You can look at the number of views or number of viewers actively on your thread, but some of those will be bots so you'll never really know. But if the number of views keeps increasing, SOMEONE is reading or looking at your stuff.Hand-Holder wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 11:45 am

True there is no "Like" button, but if a registered user wants to leave a reply in the form of an emoji, that's possible to do. I don't think a guest can reply to a post, (I may be wrong on this) and there are probably way more "guests" than registered users viewing this forum.
That said, create for YOU. This isn't a paper you have to write for school on some particular subject. Just write and post what makes you happy. I'm sure someone out there likes your work whether or not they leave a comment or not.

As long as I see that people are downloading my stories, then I am happy enough. Whilst its gratifying to get positive feedback, I mostly write stories for my own enjoyment, first and foremost. So as long as I enjoy them, then that's good enough for meHand-Holder wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 11:45 amHow do you guys measure the impact or engaement/ enjoyment of your writtings ?Raso719 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 4:47 pmBreaking my own rule here but if the discussion is on what motivates or keeps people from writing I figured I'd chime in.

Re: Who else dares to write ???
I love to write. I don't do much here because I include shrunken ABDL stuff in most of my stories, and I sense that's a turnoff for most of the audience here. I park that stuff and just about everything else over on DeviantArt. (https://www.deviantart.com/chaser984.)
My biggest issues are that I either run out of ideas or interest before I complete most things. About the only finished work I have is a non-sw fantasy novel, and I'm struggling to get started on a follow-up.
I measure my impact based on how many people bother reading my stuff, and DA makes that easy. I know I have a real winner when readers DM me or comment. That is flattering. For my fantasy novel on Amazon, I am disappointed that less than 20 people have read it since I published it 18 months ago, but I know it's a good product when I see on my dashboard that the people who download it to Kindle Unlimited finish the 400-page book in about 30 hours. As for the lack of sales, that's on me. I did/do nothing to promote the thing, and have no real idea how.
I like to think I'm successful with my SW fiction serve the 24" to 48" niche that doesn't get as much love as the 12" and under sizes, but has a dedicated fanbase.
If I had a few bits of advice to folks who want to write, here or anywhere else, is 1: Practice. You're not going to be the next Salinger or Austin right out of the gate. I'm 40 and have been writing as a hobby since I was 19. I have some Doom/Command & Conquer crossover fanfiction from way back in the day and it is execrable. I don't think I produced anything worth reading by the larger world until 2011 when I began writing my first Skyrim fanfiction. (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9810016/1/I-Companion)
2: Write for yourself first. If you're just going through the motions and aren't having fun with it, readers will pick up on that and be turned off.
3: Learn basic grammar and punctuation.
Do those three things and the readership will (mostly) take care of itself.
