Disney was demonstrating some new tech, allowing us to interact with a REAL, shrunken actor! Hologram technology is amazing

Maybe I'm stupid but how does it work exactly? Holograms? The camera work sucks and doesn't really show what's going on.

Except for getting Tink to talk back, apparently anyone with a smartphone can do the same thing.
Ahhh, thank you so much. Those last two videos make it pretty clear.

As for talking back, nothing a good AI can't take care of.

Most of Disneys magic is a rehashing of the Culpeppers Ghost illusion that is over 100 years old. It’s really cool when done well, but not ground breaking.

Sony even has a hologram arcade game called Time Traveller in the late 1980s with a similar tech

I think that was Sega actually. I remember that game well. The girl that played the princess in that was hot and every time I came across that game, I would just stand there and watching the tiny girl, wishing I could just grab her and take her home, lol. The hologram looked like a real SW was there.

Princess Kyi-La was played by LeAnne McVicker, an aerobics instructor from Los Angeles. (segaretro.org)
"You're like, really tiny."
"Thanks. I had no idea."

Aww man. I wanted to get a Gate box like that. Even requested one from Japan. But unfortunately, no go, because it was expensive. And when the US made it here, their holographic 'waifu' was nothing short of ugly Karen trash.
So my search for a program like JP Gatebox still continues.

There's also the tiny hologram of Anne Francis in Forbidden Planet:

The clip from Forbidden Planet is buried in a compilation of holograms in movies:
