What got you interested in SW

Just wondering what got any of you into SW, is all, mine being an ad campaign made by the cleaning brand Swiffer in the early 2010s

For me, I'm pretty sure it was seeing the original 1933 King Kong when I was really, really young. Also when I was little I was very much aware of the 70's Kong as well, and that had giant fingers undressing a hot chick. That and a ton of King Kong parodies in cartoons.

Warped my mind.

I am pretty certain it was the TV show Dr. Shrinker. I had the hots for BJ something bad, despite not even being a teenager yet.

I don't remember anything particularly triggering my interest. I think I was always fascinated with shrinking. I remember watching cartoons where the characters would shrink, and think it was so odd how drawn I was to it. I'd be so secretly excited when those episodes would air, and be mortified that others would notice how fixated I was on it. It didn't occur to me that it was a fetish until many years later when I absent-mindedly imagined a female friend of mine dwindling into her clothes and realized how it made me feel.

Your story is very similar to my own. Whilst Dr. Shrinker is the most obvious, stand-out influence for me as a child, I do vaguely recall cartoons that had women shrinking in them. I was also old enough to watch The Incredible Shrinking Woman when it first came out. Like you, I was mortified that people might notice my level of interest in media that featured shrinking-right up until around 1997, when I discovered my first SW Websites.

It's hard to pinpoint any exact influence as it goes back to my early childhood. King Kong 33 and the Japanese sequels, Land of the Giants, the episode of Super Friends where Wonder Woman got shrunk, Dr. Shrinker (everyone had a crush on BJ) but if I were to pick the earliest influence, I would have to say it was the Gulliver cartoon in 1968 when I was around 7. Even though I was too young to comprehend relationships or sex, Flirticia drew my attention, and she seemed to have a "fondness" for Gary Gulliver, rather than guys her own size. I think a kids variety show called The Banana Bunch introduced this cartoon as well as Dr. Shrinker. Kong 76 when I was going through puberty cemented it in my psyche.

Technically, not SW. But seeing Susan Gallagher in her nightie in Ric Ocasek's giant hand in The Cars' video for You Might Think really got the gears turning at a young age.

I mean mine isn't as interesting as y'all's answers, what being an ad campaign from the early 2010s involving tiny mess ladies.

Super Mario Kart for SNES
Poison Mushrooms in Smash bros melee
Lightning from Mario Power Tennis (Daisy was my crush)
Totally Spies
In high school, girls would wear a particular kind of ballerina flat, and for some reason, my brain interpreted that as them wanting to become smaller, cuter, tinier, it was as if looking pretty and wearing them was a tease to me to shrink them so they would "feel" embarrassed from teasing me that way and "actually" becoming smaller, yet also feel cute. Always imagined that with the video games, too

In Spanish they use to call them "doll" shoes. It also got me excited when my girlfriend at the time wore them.

Yes, it does help that they "doll" someone up :) I find it so so cute. That's a really nice sentiment

For me it was seeing 7th Voyage of Sinbad for the first time. No, you crazy zoomies, I am NOT so old that I saw it in its original release! It was rerun being shown during a Saturday matinee at the base theater, where military parents dumped their kids for a couple hours so they could go do whatever parents do at noon on weekends. (I'd rather not think about that too much, actually...)

Anyway! I was probably twelve and was nibbling popcorn with my friend, eyes glued to the screen, and suddenly Parisa's arm starts dwindling away and I"m like WTF is going on, and my friend says, "Oh, wow, she's SHRINKING...!" And poof, my young pre-fetish brain cells clicked and stuck together, and that's it, a lifelong obsession was born!

I just discovered the new Polly Pocket cartoon recently, (love it, btw) and all I know is that it’s going to create an entirely new generation of size fetish people.

God bless the creators of that show.

It was the superfriends for me. The idea of being tiny like that and having adventures was so fascinating. I was pretty small at the time so I'd imagine myself as an adult who was shrunken so I could be a spy.

As a legal adult I can confirm that it is eating ice cream.
And of course they want to dump the kids at the cinema first, otherwise they would have to share.

That show is certainly interesting, and I have personally always had a fascination with being played with like a doll, which might be another explanation of why I love gts content haha

I thought it was simply sitting down somewhere, breathing and not having to yell at the kids.

I knew there would be girls out there that felt that way! From what I can gather, GTS is waaaaay more popular than SW.

That has always been in my subconscious. Is it better to have a tiny woman in a giant world like Brobdingnag or be a giant in a tiny world like Lilliput?

I think it depends on the person and why they enjoy the concept I guess. I'd imagine someone who expresses it as a power/control thing would rather be a giant in a tiny world, while people more interested in the caring/protection angle prefer tinies in an otherwise normal world.

No that is only today. Back in the day you just send the kids outside to play all day.
Who cared what they did. Most of them survived anyway.
And the helicopter parents of today, just get what they deserve for not keeping proper distance :P
