Re: Heretic
Great catch, vash! It looks like you're right. The last shot zooms out, and shows her wandering through the maze with a giant notebook next to it

Re: Heretic
At around 2:14 as the camera keeps pulling back, in the bottom left corner there's seemingly a spiral notebook on a table, suggesting the house has something to do with diorama from earlier in the trailer.
Definitely a longshot like you said but I'll try to keep an ear to the ground. Thanks!

Well, this looks promising. Wonder why the title shot looks like it was shot with a mirror or something, everything looks reversed. And I'm betting that's one of Mr. Reed's carvings there behind Sister Paxton. November can't come soon enough.

I was going to post this trailer but was almost hesitant incase I was tripping. But looks like others noticed some potential here.

Also, even though A24 is only a distributor and has not input in the creative process and has been involved in a tidal wave of stuff over the past decade, I'd like to point out that they're responsible for 2 releases this year that had size change: Love Lie Bleeding (GTS) and Tuesday (SW + GTS).
I feel like for the foreseeable future this is the group we're most likely to see anything worthwhile, if only because of volume and willingness to embrace more creative projects.

Re: Heretic
Man, these reviewers. Barely anyone's made a comment about the shrinking part. Not sure Mr. Reed's *just* a scientist either, even a mad one.

Saw someone bring up H.H. Holmes and his "murder castle" on reddit at least. Interesting reference.
Apparently the town scenes were filmed in Squamish, BC, and the Copper Coil is an actual restaurant there.

On a completely non-SW tangent, its so amazing to see Hugh Grant abandon his one-note 90's Rom-com persona in favour of more.....villainous roles over the last decade or so.

Re: Heretic
This is so hot somehow. I was absolultely thrilled when the girl is coming up from the stairs and the camera is zooming out to reveal she is in a miniature house and she's thus running in a little maze like a little mouse. And her help scream adds to the effect too
She just looks so small all of a sudden and like a little animal in its little maze... amazing...
So hope it turns out the girls are tiny. And there's a line there about "I think we're being studied"...

Agreed Aussie. I'll look out for it for that reason too.(shrunken women or no)Aussie_Lurker wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2024 10:14 amOn a completely non-SW tangent, its so amazing to see Hugh Grant abandon his one-note 90's Rom-com persona in favour of more.....villainous roles over the last decade or so.
It'll be good to see him doing something darker like this.

Re: Heretic
Finally getting its premiere at a film fest this week, and Hugh Grant is going on a podcast to talk about it. Can't wait.
edit: "frequently hilarious"? So it's also a comedy?

Deliciously dark and frequently hilarious, this chamber horror from writer-director duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (the celebrated scenarists behind A Quiet Place) considers how an innocent chat about theology can go terribly awry. Starring Hugh Grant in a brilliantly against-type performance, Heretic is a fiendishly irreverent tale of battling convictions.
Sister Paxton (Chloe East, TIFF ’22’s The Fabelmans) and Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher (Prospect) are cheerfully going about their mission to spread good news about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Working down a list of doors to knock on, they arrive at the quiet suburban house of Mr. Reed (Grant), who seems not only polite and hospitable but also genuinely fascinated by the history and teachings of Mormonism.
In fact, Mr. Reed is quite knowledgeable about all the world’s major religions and is eager to discuss them with the women. Perhaps too eager. With the rain coming down outside and Mr. Reed’s wife making pie in the next room, the setting is utterly cozy. The only thing that could spoil it would be if Sister Paxton and Sister Barnes wanted to leave.

One last reminder: Next week’s podcast episode will be recorded live in Toronto with Hugh Grant joining me to talk about his role in A24’s upcoming thriller Heretic and so much more. If you’ll be in Toronto, I hope I’ll see you there!

Do please let us know if there's tiny content. I was really excited about the trailer. That zoom out shot of the tiny girl revealed to be in a miniature house was just, whoa

Re: Heretic
Reading this review, it seems the zoom out shot ("overhead zoom that turns into a miniature shot before then stitching back into the chase scene") does make it into the movie. Nothing SW-specific mentioned so far, though.

Every review agrees Hugh Grant's knocked it out of the park, so it's got a great villain for sure.

I so totally love that poster. They keep teasing us...
I'm bracing for there not being any SW tho. But it's nice to dream a bit

Really keeping the plot close, but I've gotten enough hints here and there to look forward to this.

Re: Heretic
I may be repeating myself, but I can't believe how it's like they're teasing us with the SW possibility... even though I don't think there's any reason for there to be actual SW in such a story/setting
Tbh, I feel a bit like the universe is toying with me irl a bit...
About the question above, I googled and I didn't find any SW references. Just that the themes of religion are not very inspired and kind of a waste of time. I'm still really interested in the movie tho
And going back to the teasing... I mean, first the trailer and now this poster... I feel like I'm being toyed with a bit, bcs in the end there's not going to be SW (I think), but they keep teasing... sorry, it's just that there's so little SW content out there that every drop is precious

Re: Heretic
I don't think it's that they're toying with us, I suspect it's just a case of "artistic licence" being used by the publicity machine. Maybe suggesting that the villain (Grant) will be seeking to have power over the two female protagonists. But hopefully this may include making the women appear to be small, in some scenes? We'll maybe have to wait and see.pokonota wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 3:00 am

We've had countless examples of where movie posters and magazine covers exaggerate what the content will actually be, so always best to take them with a pinch of salt.
"The miniature wife" movie sounds more promising though. Any news on that one, anybody?

Re: Heretic
One photo shows a (full-sized) Sister Paxton looking down at the miniature of the house shown in the trailer, so they will interact with it. Still confident it will have some SW given the hints so far.

Re: Heretic
If you see SW iconography used symbolically, there is little chance of their being actual SW. The movie might be interesting, but not for that reason.
The Miniature Wife sounded absolutely dire to me. "Useless woman wallowing in depression does everything she can to sabotage her own relationship."Little Sally wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 8:56 am"The miniature wife" movie sounds more promising though. Any news on that one, anybody?
