I'm not sure what you mean by painting, but this is how I did it:

First I uploaded a template image into Dream of my hands holding a phicen doll. (I used the same template image for the anime style and the HDR style pictures) Then I ran it through Dream a couple of times starting at 65% influence. I decreased the percentage of influence each time so it added more and more detail with every generation. (I used the same prompt every time, but never went below 50% influence) Then when I had a generation that looked really good, I cut it out, pasted it against a background, then ran that image through Dream again at 50% until I found the final image I was happy with.

I didn't do any "surgery" on the HDR one. (I call it surgery when I have to go into my Photo Cutout app to take elements of an image or multiple images and edit them into a single one.) I assume this is what you meant by painting? I had to do that with the anime style ones; the legs and feet kept coming out way too far to the right, but otherwise the rest of the picture looked great so I did some surgery to move them over to a place where they looked more natural.

And that's how the magic works.
