King Kong in the Modern Day

Post by PickUpArtist » Fri Nov 01, 2024 11:04 pm

I'd like to see another, more traditional KING KONG movie, but not one set in the 1930s. That pleases purists, I know, but I like that 76 Kong modernized the story, for the time. It made Dwan even hotter.

How might they modernize the traditional KONG story today? Personally I wouldn't mind seeing some sexy slightly punked up "Ann", a messy-bunned twentysomething with tats and a piercing or two.

Well they kind of tried a modernized take on Kong with Skull Island, which was entertaining in its way, but was basically a load tosh and irrelevant to the original story. And the problem with remaking it in line with how things are now, is instead of a traditional heroine in peril we'd get exactly what you describe. Some spunky kick ass social issue conscious type, who doesn't give a damn about anything but her own agenda. But she'll probably save the world in the process, so all will end well.

But I say.. Equal rights for giant apes! :D

I imagined the story could lean into Kong's history. Everything in 1933 happened, but Skull Island is now -- partially -- a tourist destination with resort beaches, and an exotic national park, full of prehistoric creatures that people can pay to fly over and view. However, no further Kongs have been observed (there's a sense they're extinct, but perhaps the last one is actually in hiding).

The woman can be anyone: a tourist, a singer on a cruise, an ecologist at the park, even a bartender. At some point, maybe a rogue pterodactyl kidnaps her and brings her deep into the bowels of Skull Island, where she's saved by another of Kong's species, who, of course, takes the usual liking to her. One could do a million things.

Even though it's expensive, I do miss the Kong animatronics and costumes from way back then. Because at least you know he's there unlike in CGI, where it's all invisible and behind some green screen effects.

"You're like, really tiny."
"Thanks. I had no idea."

Oh yes! I'm liking the sound of that idea. It really opens it up, and could go so many ways as you say.

And there'd be scope for a bit of cheesiness, if an unsuspecting woman was kidnapped by a pterodactyl (which always looked good in the original, and of course in One Million Years B.C.). Or perhaps remnants of the original natives are still active and looking to appease Kong's ancestor, with a new attractive offering to him.

And I hear what Kira is saying about the old school special effects which were great, but CGI doesn't bother me too much in movie form, where my brain can happily accept it's happening for real in a film. It makes physically interactive scenes so much easier to achieve too.

Yes, your idea is definitely something I'd like to see happen.

Thank you! Glad you liked it. Yeah, it'd be nice to open up the traditional Kong story, as you say. Having him be 300 ft tall and not carrying around a woman in hand (I don't count Brie Larson lying like a tiny bug in his palm), is just not Kong to me.

I agree too with Kira on the animatronics. Especially when it comes to the hand. Knowing that an *actual hand* is clutching an *actual actress* is just way hotter. It's way 76 and 33 still get more views out of me than 05. My intellect appreciates 05. But not the handheld lover.

Couldn't agree more about the Brie Larson size scale in Skull Island (sorry micro devotees) which totallly misses the point of the Kong story in general. Having a bug sized woman in his hand, isn't what it's all about or ever should be. But that's movie making people for you, who so carefuly guide us in directions they find safer to deal with in todays politically correct world.

Have to agree. The actual handheld scenes, being actual handhelds, in Kong 76 made the movie.

Give AI two more years, maybe only one more year, and many people with creative ideas will be able to generate complete movies, with full character and scenarios consistency... And than we can chose to SKIP THE SAME OLD BS AGENDA - SCREW THE WOKE - AND LET´S REALLY HAVE SOME FUN !!!

Hell, if Youtube does not become more WOKE than it already is, I may even buy Premium to admire those endless creations without any ads...

Who needs cable TV when anyone can do movies ???

Of course there will be much trash, but that is the price for having MUCH MORE freedom of choice in content !!!
