I like to think I'm successful with my SW fiction serve the 24" to 48" niche that doesn't get as much love as the 12" and under sizes, but has a dedicated fanbase.
Yes I'm sure you'll have a dedicated audience for that niche. But of course size preference is the one thing that divides us all, and you can never satisfy everyone no matter how good you are (or how hard you try). Min' for example wrote some marvelously creative stories back in the day, but his size preferences always took the edge off them for me. Which is just another case of each to their own, as it has always been.

If I had a few bits of advice to folks who want to write, here or anywhere else, is 1: Practice. You're not going to be the next Salinger or Austin right out of the gate. I'm 40 and have been writing as a hobby since I was 19. I have some Doom/Command & Conquer crossover fanfiction from way back in the day and it is execrable. I don't think I produced anything worth reading by the larger world until 2011 when I began writing my first Skyrim fanfiction. (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9810016/1/I-Companion)

2: Write for yourself first. If you're just going through the motions and aren't having fun with it, readers will pick up on that and be turned off.

3: Learn basic grammar and punctuation.

Do those three things and the readership will (mostly) take care of itself.
I think you more or less nail it with those thoughts.

Bad (or lazy) grammar is a real turn off for me especially. I mean, you might have a brilliant and creative imagination, but if you write like you're texting someone on a stupid mobile phone.. Just forget it! :D

Good post you made there. Thanks.

My writing skills are amazing. Close to professional, one of the few things I'd actually be this full of myself and outspoken about in public. I'm usually very humble...but shiiiiiit, I can spin a yarn, lemme tell ya whut.

I've written and posted some stories...but took most of them down. There are a lot of ideas for short SW stories in my head. Perhaps one day I'll write and post them. (I kinda wanted to do like, short chapters here and there with an AI image to go along with them)
Based more on what other people have said to me, I am very good at STARTING stories.....but I am absolutely awful at completing them.
Yes! Yes! Me too.

I have a bad habit of starting a story with no idea of where it is going. I usually come up with a beginning and an end, such as in "Little White Lies" that I'm doing now, a story with pictures in the SW Stories section, but have no idea of what is going to happen in between. :?

In this story, I'm writing it from my point of view, as I see it in my mind as if it's happening to me in real time. I'm not trying to write a literary masterpiece, but I am, Sally, trying to use relatively proper grammar.

I'm in a similar boat, Aussie. I have stories up the wazoo flowing through my head, but the moment I put pen to paper (or rather keyboard to docs), I lose my fire since, let's face it, writing is fun but can get exhausting if you don't have the impetus to keep going when your balancing work and life. And my work-life balance is absolutely atrocious. The only stories I've completed are on an alternate giant-tiny (but not specifically SW) account on AO3 or DA. My incentives have to be something like a random hit of a writing fever, inspiration, free time, and money (I've been commissioned a couple times which are the few that have reached completion).

I AM a bit motivated to finish up several stories. Particularly the Pet Transition (which was outlined from front to finish back when I had it on Min's Site and is in need of a severe re-haul and rewrite), A Trip to Remember (which actually IS outlined from start to finish and will probably be a doorstopper once I get around to finishing it), and Small Matters (my current muse which mixes Supernatural-Thriller/Mystery/Sci-Fi with its ending already planned and the details in between reaching from the start and finish needing some tweaking).

There are three stories ideas I've been want toying with the idea of writing:

1. A story about a husband and wife who are learning to navigate their marriage after said wife contracts an extremely rare disease that irreversibly shrinks her to four inches tall. Like a parallel of having a relationship with, as well as learning care for a disabled spouse. As well as what its like to have your world turned upside down. Of course, I know these kinds of stories been done to death but I've always liked the concept and I want to take a crack at it.

2. A story where, thanks to an experimental quantum foam leaking out from a lab, everyone in an office building shrinks and they must figure out how to survive when the government is doing their damndest to cover their tracks. Typical shrinkies vs the world stuff.

3. A story where a plane crash lands on some weird place where the law of physics is on vacation, and for some reason, something's up with passengers being either tiny or huge. Alice in Wonderland stuff. Needs a bit more thought put into it.

I might get to them. I might not. Brain's kinda fickle like that.

I just posted my first story here “Maya’s Downfall”. Can people read it and tell me what they think? The first story was just more of an outline that I wrote part of and then used Novelcraft to help edit but if people like the idea then I’ll clean it up. I actually have rough drafts for 75% of the story.

I might as well speak up now: I do have plans to share some writing in the next year. So far, it's just me plotting out outlines for stories. So far, I got:

1. Ideas for a story that's a modern remake to The Reducer's "Beautiful Stranger/Barbie girl" stories

2. An non-official* sequel to Captain Ash's "Manmaker Mandy" comic. Oh man, there has been ideas cooking in my head for that one since I first read it.

I hope I can get those out sometime next year as my way of giving back to this community.
I'm curious to read that. :D
Wonder how much this story has messed you up. :D

Thanks! Let me know what you think! If you like it, I can get almost all of it out this week. Nobody has commented now though so I don’t know if it’s any good. Feedback is appreciated and any ideas you have that you think would make it better let me know!

I think it is a well written and developed story, being able to involve people because it shows the character's feelings and is not just a bunch of actions and happenings, the only thing I think it could improve it is a bit less descriptions and a bit more happenings, but maybe others do not agree

But hey, where that one came from, I think is worth it to bring more

Happy Christmas

Welp. I said I wasn't going to do stories until 2025 but with the holiday season, I figured "Why not?"

I got two stories appropriate for the holidays.
Still working on the second one but the first one is done! viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7267

Awesome! Let me know what you think! Story two is still in WIP form but nearly done.

Separate question for you folks: I have a story with a bit of fantasy violence and a crush moment that I made sure wasn't too detailed, would it still be considered something for VSW or will it be okay in the main forum?

*Steps up to the soapbox*

Well, to be honest, I've got TWO stories which I wrote in the last couple of years. One is actually a complete reimagining of one of my original stories from the old days. The original story was entitled "Toobin' Down the River", but the updated version is now "Shenandoah Surprise".

The second story is actually a full-length novel (over 50K words). It was a story I came up with back in 2003, but didn't truly dive into it until several years ago prior to Covid. I managed to finish it in 2022, but I'd wanted to publish it for real, but real-life has kept me from pursuing that direction. The story was originally known as "Dare to Dream" but I changed it to "Perchance to Dream"

If there's interest, I'd consider posting them, but it would be very long.

I know I've been gone a long time, but for those of you who remember, I used to be known as TDLAmador back in the days of the Yahoo Forum Groups.

Dude, I've been meaning to reach out to you. Good to see ya! Anytime you want to get together and discuss making Always Follow the Directions suitable for publishing in your series, just let me know.

Raso719,

Your dreams may just come true. ;)
As for the other part...give me a few days to start pulling up Shenandoah Surprise and we'll see if we can get a good ol' story session going again, just like in the old days.

Well, I have another 2 stories pretty much ready to go....both of which I wrote with the aid of AI. One will be for the VSW, but the other will be for the main Story forum. Both stories deal with the concept of someone slowly shrinking over the course of over a year-one a wife and mother, the other a professional stripper. Sadly, once those stories are uploaded, there won't be anything new from me until I can find a replacement for Wilfie.com.....or until they find a better 3rd Party ISP.

I used to be tall,
but now I'm quite small!
I'm looking up high,
and wondering why.
My body just froze,
lost in my loose clothes.

I heard someone coming,
and had to start running!
I ran off stark naked.
In hiding, I waited.
I saw in despair,
the man who stood there.

He dug through my clothes.
I felt so exposed!
He knelt down his head.
I shivered in dread.
The place where I hid,
was a trap with a lid!

Caressed by his fingers,
His gaze at me lingers.
He smiles with delight,
at my squeaking and fright.
My body, his toy,
My struggle, his joy.
I can only pray
to survive this day.

Hey now, you made "Toobin" and "Redemption" which are worthy of you being a legend.

As for me, I have that other Christmas story marked as "done" but I just need to edit it.

Since I'm house hunting for the next week or two, I put development of "The Cost of Science" on hold but a chapter or two of it is done. Expect that story to be a slow burner so shrinking isn't going to happen for a bit.

I also have a story that will hit the VSW side that is unfinished but it'll be a test fire if I continue it at some point. it contains what I like to call "fantasy violence". I hope some of you are fans of videogames that are "Souls-like"
