Not sure how I missed this detail before, or maybe it's a recent update, but on the page for the show on the Peacock website, the poster for the show gives top billing to Elizabeth Banks (obviously!), then Matthew Macfayden, and then Zoe Lister-Jones.

The actress is 42 years old, known for the series Life in Pieces, and is listed as a main role in The Miniature Wife on her Wikipedia page. Being third-billed in a relationship drama between a married couple definitely means something. I've updated my series compendium, predicting that she’s likely either someone significant to Lindy (best friend, sister, agent, rival), to Les (project supervisor/boss, affair partner, rival who wants the miniaturization tech), or to both (their couples counselor or divorce lawyer/mediator).

And in other news, filming is scheduled through July 8. That's less than three weeks away.
wait they havent been filming yet??? then wtf were they doing for the past few years (or months?)

Is English your second language too, ROGU3? Someone spotted them filming in a couple of Toronto locations today, what could this mean:

https://x.com/TOFilming_EM/status/1935879636438716809

"Magoo" is the production company (Mr. Magoo Productions ON Inc.) they've set up for the shoot. Also spotted shooting back in April, at a nice restaurant and a... suburban neighborhood:

Also found another extra who lists his roles as "Pulitzer Attendee/Grad Parent". Does that mean Elizabeth's playing a top journalist now???

Notice that the background looks like GIANT wood.

After seeing construction on that giant beer can, I am hoping for great things in this series. I'm hoping for interaction with quite a few practical effects. All you little girls imagine interacting with a can of drink that big. At four inches tall in this role, I'm sure if Elizabeth Banks were to indulge in alcohol, she would be a bit of a lightweight. Shrunk AND drunk? Sounds promising :)
Be seeing you.

Lindy could be a journalist, but she could also be an author. Pulitzer Prizes are awarded in journalism and for other writing: Drama, Fiction, History, Biography, Memoir, General Nonfiction, Poetry, and Music. Lots of possibilities there. And it wouldn't be Les--a scientist/engineer--winning such an award.

Flashback to when they were in college and something happened? Or could Les's miniaturization program be affiliated with a prestigious research university? If it's discovered he shrunk a human (let alone his wife), even accidentally, he'd face disciplinary action.

Not sure how the tuxedo applies (unless this extra attends the wedding and/or party referenced below), but "tech" males could be background extras at Les's workplace.

A scene at a wedding, likely before Lindy's shrinking? Or maybe after, and Les has to contend with questions about her absence. Either that or it's a flashback to their wedding. The guests being "upscale" supports the idea that Lindy is a Pulitzer Prize winner.

I'm sticking with my prediction that Lindy & Les have a daughter who graduates high school before the shrinking occurs. The 18-22 age range matches that of actress Sofia Rosinsky, who is cast in a significant role. Maybe family issues are complicated by Lindy not only being a mom at that graduation ceremony but also a speaker. This could lead to friction between Mom & daughter as well.

Scenes around the city, including "excellent" cab drivers? OMG, could there be a car chase with shrunken Lindy captured by someone in one cab while Les is in another cab in hot pursuit?

Security guards at Les's workplace make sense, even more so if there are potential military applications of the shrinking technology. Either that, or Lindy goes giant as a boomerang ending and the military is called in to contain a potential rampage. (Not necessarily what we here want to see, but well within possibility given the narrative structure and other SW media like The Incredible Shrinking Woman and The Shrinking of Miss China.)

At "an affluent millionaire's house"? Could the millionaires be Lindy and Les? If she's a Pulitzer-Prize-winning journalist/author and he's a scientist, they'd be wealthy. Maybe she's responsible for most of that wealth, giving him feelings of inadequacy, and is part of the power (im)balances in their marriage. Also, the specific restriction against the color RED implies to me that Lindy will be in red. Don't want to upstage the lead actress! ;)

This one's harder for me to figure out, but all I can imagine is the scene in the movie Ant-Man right after Scott first tries on the suit and he ends up at the house party in his apartment building. Could shrunken Lindy be at such a party? Or is this something else? Yeah, not sure about this one. What's with the MMA fighter???

That top photo is from 2017, accompanying this article: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/20/movi ... rfect.html

She's wearing the same dress and has the same hairstyle there.

As for the second photo, HELL YEAH! There's going to be a lot of great oversized practical props. One potential prop I'm hoping we'll see, which wouldn't have appeared in The Incredible Shrinking Woman, is a giant cellphone. If she's about 6" tall--pretty much 1/12 scale--a cell phone in the range of 6-8 feet tall/long would be a great practical prop. And with flat screen and touch screen technology being what it is, they could easily make something that tiny Lindy could interact with. I SO WANT THAT!

Thanks, Scidram. That can actually tells us exactly how big she'll be in the show. It's a 24 ounce can, and on average these are 7.5 inches tall. So it looks to me like you're right, and they're going with the old classic 1/12 scale. No offense to you bigger or tinier ladies, but that's a great scale, especially for the kind of interaction we're hoping for.
Be seeing you.

Though his character likely won't be portrayed to have a shrinking woman fetish (it's mainstream TV after all), I think he'll definitely have an obsession with miniature things as his job--at least as it's described in the short story--is all about shrinking things.

Personally I think it's more interesting to look forward to how the imbalance of power works out. I mean, he might not have a shrinking 'fetish' as such, but his wife's new size has got to begin changing the way he regards her. Especially if their relationship wasn't exactly perfect beforehand.

The series is so full of interesting ways it could go, I'm really looking forward to it.

Oh, absolutely!

Lindy's new size will definitely change how he regards her, especially if we operate under the current assumption that she's a Pulitzer Prize winner. I expect him to relish being the archetypal "bread winner" of the couple now. I also expect him to become patronizing in a "you're so cute in the dollhouse" way, at least at first. In the podcast audio adaptation, the husband even asks his wife if she could learn to like being that size. And the longer she stays shrunk, the more tense he'll become, perhaps resorting to locking her in the dollhouse as the story goes. But I think we're going to see her in places outside the house. He's going to have to take her to work at some point.

And I think there will be some discussion about sex because that's a power dynamic as well. Even if he doesn't have a shrinking fetish as such, he may be intrigued with possibilities. After all, Daryl Hannah's Nancy Archer in the Attack of the 50-Foot Woman remake suggested "love on the scale of Gulliver" to her husband.

I wish we could have this show now, but all good things are worth the wait. And this is gonna be a really big (or small) good thing!

Can't help but agree with your speculations. I can imagine them both being in complete turmoil at the start, each for their own personal reasons. He, having a guilt complex for allowing the situation to happen, and she understandably being very p*ssed off with him for causing it. I think it's a gem of a situation that will be fun to see develop. And trying to put myself in her shoes, I can imagine she'll be trying her damnedest to retain the respect she thinks she's entitled to, despite being the size she's become.

Also (if I've understood what I've heard so far), the husband's ability to reduce other things in size, will enable her to have variation in her wardrobe and eliminate any issues with food and drink. Hoping I'm right in that. Because that in itself should help her retain some dignity, and her expectations of how she should be treated. But of course we all expect (and hope), that things won't be quite as simple as that.

Absolutely. Sex has got to be touched upon hasn't it. So it will be fascinating how they handle the subject in this kind of scenario. Can't wait! ;)

I vaguely remember him asking (indignantly) if she expected him to put on a wetsuit and dive in. My memory might be playing tricks though.

This is what I’m the most interested in. As a public figure/award winning writer, is she going to ‘shrink’ from public view, or is she going to stick to her public life? We may get lots of interactions. After all, writing is something she can still do. Maybe this takes a weird turn where she’s writing about the experience and becomes even more famous, and the husband, despite being normal sized and the “powerful one” is still the backseat in the relationship.

Conversely I’m hoping she’s kind of jerk and they’re both not-great to each other, and come out the side better for it. She lets her ego go a little bit and relies on him, he learns to be more confident and kinder, without needing to feel big to be a bigger person.

I think if it’s true to the book the best we can hope for is War of the Roses, as said previously.

This is something I’m expecting too. A bit like the first and third Glass entries from The Minimizer. Tons of shrunken amenities. Maybe some scenes with oversized food. I don’t think she’s going to want too many reminders of her size.

I’m hoping it’s not played for cheap laughs. I think it’ll be absolutely a topic but I’m doubting that “pleasing him” is one of her priorities.

This absolutely happened! Poolside date scene. He got indignant but by this point in the plot the scummy husband knew there were concerns about her heart being able to support her body and that if he got her stressed (rapid heart rate) she could have an attack and die. He was actively trying to kill her by breaking her heart.

Absolutely! We know from the article about the trailer that she will be p*ssed off, at least at first. And I can't agree with you more that she will try to retain that respect. Knowing what I know about Elizabeth Banks, I can't imagine her taking this role if the wife wasn't a strong character.

According to the short story, the husband specializes in miniaturization and has several different ways to do so. The issue in the story was that he (allegedly) didn't know which method accidentally shrunk his wife, so he didn't know how to undo it. In the audio adaptation, it's implied that the shrinking device is a prototype but the regrowing device is years away. I'm predicting that the series will fall somewhere in the middle: he may have multiple ways to miniaturize stuff, both inorganic and organic, but no way to regrow at least the organic material yet.

Also, by being able to shrink her wardrobe, food, and furnishings--just like the story--it saves on production costs. The costume designers don't have to create scaled-up doll clothes and can just use regular clothes. Same with furniture for the dollhouse. I'm okay with this because it's consistent with the source material and it will save up production costs for effects and other cool oversized sets (I want to see her interacting with a cell phone!).

Absolutely. Sex has got to be touched upon hasn't it. So it will be fascinating how they handle the subject in this kind of scenario. Can't wait! ;)

Re Attack of the 50-foot Woman. Was that a scene where she's laying in a swimming pool (as though she's in a bathtub) when her husband visits?
I vaguely remember him asking (indignantly) if she expected him to put on a wetsuit and dive in. My memory might be playing tricks though.
There was a great scene with Daryl Hannah in the swimming pool, but it was a dinner date where that line was said. She had set up a table for him on the top of a truck, and she was drinking wine out of a barrel. Then she makes the suggestion, and he responds with disgust, saying the "wetsuit and a flashlight" line.

And yeah, this is going to be fascinating how it deals with the power imbalances between the two characters. Yeah, there will be comedy, but because it's a multi-episode series with each episode being an hour long, there will be time to explore so much--things that a movie like The Incredible Shrinking Woman didn't have time to touch upon because the shrinking process also was part of the 90-minute-ish runtime, and they went off the rails big-time in the third act. Here there's the time and the exceptional casting.

Thank you both for your responses and further thoughts, which make for really interesting reading. If this series turns out to be half as good as some of the things you've both mentioned, It's sure to be a winner. And you've reinforced my belief that Elizabeth will be fantastic in the role, as a mature and very attractive strong woman (and so much better and believable than some young bimbo).

Re the sex/romance thing. I too hope it's treated subtly and not just for laughs, but whichever way it's approached it'll be fascinating to watch. And I'm sure by that time we'll have gotten to know the characters much better, and have more empathy with their feelings. So bring it on. Of course we won't be expecting a shrunken woman fetish kind of situation (like what happens in places like this), but even a hint in that direction might be pleasing to see.

But just seeing a woman striving to keep her sanity, and attempting to be herself (and still attractive to her partner in spite of what's happened), will be fantastic viewing material.

I'd have loved to have responded to all of the comments you both made (which I of course read and appreciated), but the hour is getting later on this side of the pond. But I'll be sure to keep following the thread.

Thanks also for filling in my blanks about the 50 foot Woman movie! I must try and catch that film again.

We’re going to see SOMETHING like that. Again, not sure how much she’ll be interested in pleasing him, but she may run into other men she may have been interested in, or find that other women are suddenly getting more serious attention while she’s a novelty. People around here see the benefit of a tiny partner but in all honesty, most people really won’t. That won’t be a hard sell for the public, and will also resonate with viewers. No one wants to feel replaced or passed over.

Goodnight! Now I will read your posts with a posh accent. I’m old, so, think Elizabeth Hurley in Bedazzled.

Great terrible movie. It’s all over the internet streaming here and there. Every bit as awful and enjoyable as you remember.

Well I enjoyed both your responses in equal measure, because you've obviously given the subject a lot of thought, and it shows.

See! Now this is what I meant about giving the subject a bit of thought. This is the sort of speculation I love reading which makes me think of things I hadn't considered before, and you're right in what you say. What will happen to Elizabeth isn't meant to be aimed in our direction (size fetishists for want of a better term), but as serious mainstream entertainment. We can maybe expect it to be lighthearted in parts, but it also promises to have an underlying dark theme involving relationships and uncertainty, and especially for the woman at the centre of it all.

And I think you're spot on about the target audience. I think it's going to have a kind of 'just put yourself in her shoes' feel to it, which will fascinate and appeal to a wide section of viewers who have no idea that places like this exist. And that's the way I'll be enjoying it too, and trying my best to leave my 'fantasy hat' by the computer where it normally sits.

Hey, old is always good in men. Old is experienced and interesting!

And thank you. I will settle everyday for that Liz Hurley image you have (and we share very similar hair colour)
I can go back to DA with renewed confidence now. :D

A big part of my perspective comes from my conversations with my wife. She absolutely does not share this fetish and responds to most of the scenarios with a degree of discomfort. She's very supportive, but I have a very clear outside perspective on how a woman could feel about this without any of the kink.

Thoughts of her being tiny make her feel vulnerable, it's a dangerous position to be in, and the pros are far outweighed by the cons.

Thoughts of me being tiny for her make her feel uncomfortable out of fear for me, the fragility of a tiny person dependent on her.

Either way the setting is distressing and disturbing to her because when you pull out the eroticism and adventure, you're left with a person who functionally cut off from interacting with the world as they know it as they've grown accustomed.

They're going to have so many options for Banks' character to explore and I'm looking forward to an episodic, character driven drama/dark comedy for exactly the reasons we're laying out here.

My wife tells me this too. I just like to make jokes about favoring my hip. I'm not actually that old, I just feel like it when I reference a 90s movie to younger coworkers who look at me with a face of innocence and confusion. (anyone here too young to remember or know in the first place, movies were better in the 90s, go watch The Mummy, you're welcome).

Enjoy! The best part about it is that the cast 100% plays into it. They are down for how bizarre it is and the film benefits from it!

It sounds like your personal situation isn't too dissimilar to mine. My other half isn't interested in what I get up to on here (and DA), though he knows it's only a fantasy hobby and nothing sinister. I've shown him the occasional artwork I do and he's been supportive and good humoured about it, but he's more than happy to leave me to it, and which I do likewise (we have our own setups, so that's a convenient arrangement).

Anyway, I agree wholeheartedly with your wife's perspectives (and it's great she shares them). What woman or anyone else for that matter, would enjoy living out their lives as a miniature version of themselves. Making them totally dependent for their well being and survival on other normal sized people, not to mention making them physically vulnerable. No thanks. I like my normal life too much to give up my independence.

Which is exactly how I'm imagining Elizabeth Bank's character will be feeling when it happens to her. Thus making it even more engaging to watch if you have empathy with her, as you and your wife obviously do.

But as a fantasy and for pure escapism, the sort of things we imagine in this place and other places is fine. Though what some find a turn on about it often leaves me cold, but that's an each to their own thing that I'd rather not get into. I'm mostly just in it for creating fantasy art scenarios, sometimes with a bit of a story theme to them. And it's the visual aesthetics of portraying women (occasionally myself) in these bizarre situations, that I find most enjoyable.

But getting back to the topic. I could only hack being a miniature wife if it was a temporary arrangement. So my own personal fantasy has me married to a clever scientist type who can work the magic with his invention. But! It can also restore me as well.

So, without going into too much detail, it's a great way for a woman to have some downsized fun (like as if they're enjoying a mutual leisure activity). But when they're ready and he restores her, she'll be available to do all the shopping and the household chores, and be a normal wife again!

So it's a win win! (especially for the hubby) :D

Don't want to upstage the lead actress! ;)
I don't know, if Elizabeth really is a Pulitzer winner it's hard for me to imagine she'd have the time or the inclination to flaunt her success with a flashy party. My take's the host's the same person bankrolling Matthew's research, think Killian from Iron Man 3, someone smooth enough to organize toney parties and military funding (which nothing in the short story suggests about the narrator). If he's capable of that then it follows one look at the bastard and you know no woman's safe from him, maybe Matthew's character and him even have a history like Stark and Killian had, in which case he'd have enough motivation to prove his superiority putting the moves on Matthew's wife. OR the guy could just stand there and be the success Matthew's character never was and drive him up the wall without lifting a finger. The point is someone in the script has to exist solely to drive Matthew to the lengths his character goes in the OG story.
