Strange cookie requests.

If you have difficulties with one of the board functions, this is the place to talk about it.
And if you are lucky someone can help you too ;)

Strange cookie requests.

Post by Little Sally » Sun Jul 20, 2025 11:44 pm

Is anyone getting persistent requests to accept cookies recently?

It only seems to be applicable to this site (on my pc)

Any ideas Elana?

I'm also having trouble accessing the forum. Most of the time, I get a blank page and have to reload. There are also many spam posts. Perhaps the page is being flooded with spammers.

While I’m still able to post, I keep getting screens like this:

It’s very annoying. I’ve got more AI vids to post!

Yes! This is happening to me too! I'll click on a topic or comment and it will go to that screen. But it's not in any consistent pattern; sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn't. I can go back and try again, and it usually works fine, but sometimes it takes a few attempts. Very frustrating.

That's right, I got the shopping list too.

But now I just ignore the cookie request and keep clicking the reload, which usually gets me to where I want to be.

It's very annoying.

I see you're all experiencing the same issue. I thought it was only for people viewing from Japan.

The cookie request and strange ad site are seemingly a strange new provider enshitification, as they went and replaced error pages with redirects to some domain parking bullshit. Personally I would prefer to see the error message.
(Also my adblocker prevented me to see anything else either until I started to test with other browsers)

From the bits I could gather it looks like there is indeed some higher load on the server leading to more errors being generated.
And of course all the reloads to actually seeing a page probably don't help ;)

Hopefully the cause will vanish soon.
(And for the symptom I have an idea how to stop it...but that looks like a weekend project and will just make sure that we get some proper error instead of random advertisement)

Well, would it help cut down on the reloads, if the site was only accessible to actual 'registered' members?

Just a thought.

Not really.
It's not even a high amount of spam bots trying to posting anything.

And the actual amount of people getting through to pages dropped to almost 0 about 3 hours ago.

And there is not much I can do about traffic, that doesn't even reach the actual server.

Oh look, the board is momentarily back ;)

And going through the web statistics...the normal visitor count per day went from 12.000 to 1.000.000.(that is visitors not visits!)
The biggest spam wave we had before went up to 300.000 visitors a day.

I can only hope that whatever botnet is responsible gets bored soon.
(for some reason I'm not prepared to handle 100 times normal load...weird)

Besides, what kind of weirdo registers on sites that don't let them see what they get?

Maybe the kind of weirdo that can't be arsed becoming a member, and prefers to be anonymous and less accountable.

Hence making the site the perfect platform for trolling.

In total there are 517 users online :: 2 registered, 1 hidden and 514 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)

That's just now of course. It's often many more so called "guests".

We have thousands of so called members that are just bots that registered and then failed to make their posts.
In regularly intervals I clean them up.
bots outnumber actual members probably by 100 to 1 for registrations.

So all blocking reading for non registered people would do, is block most of the humans who would notice the board. While having no impact on the fucking bots

So you're saying the information in the 'who is onlne' statistics is misleading, and practically irrelevant by the sounds of it. Great!

But as for registering, you can usually still view a site without doing so (ie, you can find it and see if it's your thing or not). So that wouldn't effect genuine would be members. But most sites require membership before being allowed to make posts. Which is of course not the case here.

The guest count is absolute misleading..it just hits how many times the front page gets loaded.
Yesterday we had that nice high number of15881 users online.
The number of actual people was maybe 6. The rest was just the wild accesses that broke the board...and the number of callers had started to fall back down..so we now have some indication of how many accesses in a 5 minute period work without breaking things ;)

And for moderation and ban purposes it really doesn't make a difference if people are registered or not

I have not just been trolling. I've posted content too, though right now I'm limiting it to stuff that I posted about on Minimizer's board, which you all seem to have forgotten about during the eleven years and four-and-a-half months since I was banned. (I suppose you all have forgotten about The Fantastic Little Girl, which I discovered, too.) There's other stuff that I'm keeping to myself for now.

(It looks like I can't edit my posts.)

I meant twelve years and four-and-a-half months. I mixed up my years. 2014 was the year that my grandfather on my dad's side died. (The month after he died, one night I woke up in the middle of the night yelling "I'm glad you're dead!'.)

You would have to understand that my grandfather on my dad's side, who pretty much took my dad's place after my parents divorced, threatened me with The Belt. A lot. To give one example, when I was in the tenth grade, I sprained my ankle. (And when I came home from school limping, my mom thought that I was faking it, because it happened to be report card day.) But I did not miss any school. My mom bought an ankle brace, and I limped around school until my ankle was better. After my ankle was healed, my grandfather on my dad's side wanted to examine it. He decided that my muscles were stiff, and that I needed to do exercises. These were not voluntary. If I didn't do the exercises, I would get The Belt. If I tried to stop to rest, he threatened me with The Belt. That was history repeating itself. While my parents were still married, my dad forced me to do exercises. He took me to Kingswood Elementary School and forced me to do chin-ups on the chin-up bars on the playground. At home, he forced me to do push-ups and sit-ups. My grandfather on my dad's side also threatened to kick my ass when I was 41. On Christmas Eve! Just because one of my sisters opened the car door for me, on Christmas Eve. (And when I was a child, my dad threatened me with The Belt on Christmas Day, just because I didn't want to play with one of my presents that I wasn't interested in. I was forced to play with that present.) That's why I'm glad that my grandfather on my dad's side is burning in Hell (for adultery). And I'll be glad when my dad joins him, also for adultery.
