I wanted to make a separate thread for people who aren't that excited about this show because there's no process, or any of the tropes that some of us love about this stuff, but at the same time I recognize that it's a pretty high water mark for the community and appeals to the majority of members preferences, so I don't want to be a wet blanket about it. Many of the comments from normies about the teaser refer to it as an Incredible Shrinking Woman remake, which it most certainly is not. An actual remake is the top of the mountain for me, and I'm still holding out for that someday. It's certainly missing any process, or baggy clothes, or interaction with larger objects as it appears most of her stuff has been shrunk for her convenience. That's a huge let down visually. I understand it's consistent with the source material, which I have read, so I wasn't expecting anything else, but there is a lot to be desired for people who like those aspects of this fetish.

Yes, why not start your own topic to include all the preferences you list above.

Then they won't dilute what this topic is supposed to be about. Which is for discussing the forthcoming "The Miniature Wife" TV series (which won't involve any so called 'process', thank goodness).

I think it should be posted in Media, each episode having its own thread. If someone can post the actual episode as the first comment, people who can't get Peacock can watch it. Then comments can be added to it.

But personally, I wouldn't expect anything erotic. Behind the tiny woman will be a "lesson" about dealing with marital stress and I'm sure a little "woman's liberation" attitude will be there too. But I'll watch it to see for myself.

I don't think you're being a wet blanket at all! As a big fan of process myself--especially slower, incremental process--I hear you. I also think it's funny that the normies are calling this an Incredible Shrinking Woman remake when it clearly isn't. While we won't see the baggy clothes that we like, it's not all going to be shrunken down stuff. There will be significant interaction with larger objects. They've built oversized props; I've seen a can of soda, and some reports reference giant air pods, a Lego staircase, a cell phone, and other stuff. And I am still holding out for them having built an inside a desk drawer environment.

I've gotten admin approval for each episode having its own thread, which I'll set up a few days before the show. The first post will include the rules for the threads, the main one essentially being don't spoil later episodes. You can reference earlier episodes if there are cool connections and/or call-backs (example: mentioning something from episode 2 is fine in the episode 4 thread), but nothing from later episodes (example: keep your episode 5 thoughts out of the episodes 1-4 threads).

Though I feel for those folks who can't watch it for whatever reason, I don't like the idea of posting full episodes here. I would hate for the bigwigs to catch wind of our little corner of the internet. I understand that they're a multi-billion-dollar corporation and all, but I don't want anyone potentially getting in trouble for piracy.

I don't think Shrinky is being a wet blanket either, but people wishing for their preferences from something that isn't going to deliver them, is getting a bit tedious for me. We have to accept and be grateful for something that promises to be great, which has a woman in a reduced physical state that she certainly hadn't bargained for. And from the get go!

Which is certainly more devastating for the individual concerned, than all the slow shrinking processes that have been explored in the past.

"Miniature Wife" is daring to be different in so many ways, and I applaud it for that reason. I don't expect it to be just about a 'shrunken woman' all of the time, because there'll be lots of juicy back stories and other stuff going on. But I'm sure there'll be lots of visual size references with giant objects and the like (and possibly interaction!), so that'll keep us happy as well.

It's funny really. I always think of the slow shrink/shrinking out of baggy clothes clothes brigade as 'normies'!
So you're a bit of a normie to me Sci, lol!

Not that there's anything strange about being a normie of course! (she hastens to add) :D

The 'normies' I was referring to are people outside of this community altogether. Miniature Wife is mainstream series and it's going to be watched and commented on by non-fetish minded 'normies', is what i meant. They make no distinction between the nuances of our interest, as one would expect. I hope I was clear that I'm not expecting the series to 'scratch my itch', and I hope it's a success and makes a lot of money, but at the same time, I'm worries that it will 'check a box' for mainstream productions and make them feel like the 'shrunken woman thing' has now 'been done' and won't need to be revisited again for another 50 years. I'll be dead by then and don't want to wait that long for another go at it!

Yes, I expect her situation to be quite devastating, and I can't wait to see how it plays out.

As for the shrunken vs. shrinking debate, I see cool psychological exploration in both. In Lindy's case, the devastation is summed up by the questions "How long will I be like this and how will I live my life while this size?" Meanwhile, a shrinking woman has the questions "How long will I keep shrinking and what if it doesn't stop?"

Both are fascinating to me, so I take this upcoming show as something phenomenal. Add to it how this impacts the two of them. Yowza! This is huge!

Understood about 'normies' and I'll stand corrected. My bad for not realising what you meant.

I may also have got the wrong impression that you were dissatisfied about the trend of this discussion, and so wanted it to reflect your own 'preferences' more (which we suspect the show won't do). Hence I thought you were suggesting another thread (or topic) that would be more appealing to you. Though as you've probably gathered, I'm not of that slow shrink persuasion myself. But we're a pretty broad church overall, and most of us are mature enough to chat about our differences in a friendly kind of way.

I'm like you in wanting the show to be a success of course, but let's hope what you worry about isn't the case. And that maybe it might be a kind of catalyst for future TV and movie themes, following the success of it. Time will tell, but a remake of 'Land of The Giants' would be most welcome to a lot of us. But I'll probably be too old to ever see it.

Good to talk.

And I'll have to apologise to Scidram now for labelling him a normie.

I thought I'd be bothered with the lack of process. Heck, if the teaser is any indication, her actually being shrunk could even be off screen.

But, I'm thrilled at the idea of a tiny Elizabeth Banks for ten episodes.

Might be more than 10 episodes. IMDB has it listed for 2 seasons.

IMDB had it listed at 14 episodes, including a first episode of a second season, last fall. That may have been initial call sheets, but it's not what we're getting.

Peacock has confirmed only 10 episodes with no mention of a second season. All 10 episodes will be released on April 9.

Just tagging you, scidram, there's a similar, little younger thread on The Miniature Wife on the Giantess City forum. I have been reposting, and crediting your Miniature Wife detective work there, by the way, it's well received.

For everyone else, a user on Giantess City called ForeverLurk raised a good point. To summarise, they said that the SW community rarely gets much in terms of high-end media in TV & Film focus. The Miniature Wife looks like something finally after so long. Foreverlurk even showed screenshots of tweets from people saying they hoped the roles in The Miniature Wife were reversed, which, even I notice, is typical for something like this coming out.

This got me thinking, when was the last high-end TV or film that came out with a decent focus in part or more on SW? All I think of is Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010) shrink scene. I think I am wrong. Can anyone correct me? It cannot have been that long ago?

This SW Scene:
Image

Fun Fact: Unlike the books, Mia Wasikowska played a 19-year-old Alice Kingsleigh, Mia was 18 years old during the filming.
There's Emma in Gen V, which gave us that hugging-a-dick scene we never expected to see.

But before that, maybe Alice, but that story isn't about her being tiny. So yeah, this is our watershed moment.
Wow, how did I forget Little Cricket/Emma Meyer in Gen V, I have even quoted on this forum that the actor, Lizze Broadway, prefers the SW parts over the GTS parts.

Gen V for sure (feels like forever ago already, doesn't it? ). We were also discussing Downsizing when it was in its early stages and ruminating about Cassie in AntMan. As far as anything else close involving confirmed or a really good chance of seeing something, the Sabrina Carpenter Alice in Wonderland thing should make for something good (god knows she constantly remarks about being short - hell, I caught part of the Muppets special she was in and she made a crack about her and Kermit being the same size  ).

But this? This is a full-on a production exclusively revolving around a woman being shrunk - not a b-plot, novelty episode, or incidental one-time or semi-occurring thing: it's *the entire reason the production exists*. Only a handful of shows or movies have ever dedicated this much screentime explicitly to this kind of content, and this is a high-end, highly publicized international production featuring a sexy A-List actress (yes, I know preferences vary, but all things considered she's still objectively on the more positive end of the spectrum of actresses we could have ended up with). Like, nothing short of a remake of The Incredible Shrinking Woman could be closer - really, this might as well just be considered that (though that's a topic I'm hoping to bring up at some point).

And, considering we were talking about GTSCity commentary, I'm also not fond of the idea of banging on about how it should be "reversed" for another group's sake, but, for possible context, not long ago there was a French remake of The Incredible Shrinking Man and from what I could gather it was a colossal disappointment - there's a handful of scenes were the tiny husband is anywhere near his wife (at one point she lifts up to their bed with one hand but cuts away before we can really see anything) and then he's in the basement for the much of the rest. Worse, the director said he wanted to be faithful to the book which (I'm embarrassed to say I still have gotten around to reading) is supposed to be super-charged with sexual longing...then it seemingly comes out that the director never actually read it and was bullshitting his way through the press tour, so it was all a lie. Again, the collective size community shouldn't be trying to boggart events like these from each other, but I don't have to tell you how real the frustration is in this little corner of ours.
Slams head again, how could I forget Gen V's Little Cricket/Emma Meyer.

The story of The Incredible Shrinking Woman, was poor and she whined way too much, I was hoping for a stronger presence of the slow shrinking process, like going down fighting in a way. The different sizes throughout and POVs were good, though for a low-budget film.

I have not gone near the French remake of The Incredible Shrinking Man, heard it was practically a pointless watch regardless of having a fetish or not. You think the same country that produced Totally Spies! would make something better than the original Incredible Shrinking Man for modern audiences.

On my wishlist is a remake of Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys, but I would like the opportunity to watch the original TV Movie but I have never found it or even a clip, just screenshots of the SW on the dining table holding the giant dinner knive.

She hasn't aged in body or mind since 2006-2008, which was about 19 years ago when she was 33. Personal favourite roles was Dr. Kim Briggs in Scrubs and Miriam "Miri" Linky in Zack & Miri Make a Porno, with the latter being criminally underrated. If you look past the porn/smut side of it which is mostly just jokes, the main two characters 0 to full romance is rather sweet in a classic Kevin Smith way. Always makes me smile that film.

Elizabeth Banks was interviewed at the Olympics. Some others have posted about it, and she said, "It's a relationship dramedy about this couple who think they have a lot of big problems until they have exactly one very small problem which is that I am six inches tall."

My guess is that the powers that be at NBC may think the concept is a little too offbeat to draw a massive, mainstream audience, at least right away.

They may be banking on good reviews/word of mouth to bring viewers in once the series is released.

The flashbacks to earlier in their marriage is reminiscent of "Desperate Measures", which is available for purchase on Amazon and is thus readily available to the general public. We'll have to wait and see if everyone who sees the shrunken Lindy for the first time immediately faints.
Thanks for the shout-out, Schadenfreude!

As more and more details about the show came out, I thought more and more about my own novel Desperate Measures (shameless plug: it's available HERE).

There are a lot of similarities. Both Lindy and Veronica are shrunk by a technological accident that they don't yet know how to safely undo. Their shrunken existence is kept a secret except for a select few people. Both have marital issues with their husband that the narrative uses the height imbalance to explore. Both stories include pre-shrunk flashbacks. And at one point in the story, they're both kept hidden in a drawer in the lab. All right, I don't know that for sure with Lindy, but if I wrote that for Veronica, then I have the right writing mindset to predict it will happen to Lindy.

However, there are differences. My Veronica was shrunk to 12" while Lindy will be shrunk to 6". The accident that shrunk Veronica is her own technology that her husband Derek knew nothing about, while Lindy will be shrunk by her husband Les's technology. And my Derek truly truly loves Veronica and always has her back, while... well... the verdict is still out on Les, but the teaser implies that maybe he doesn't.

We'll find out in 60 days! And in the meantime, let me recommend a shrunken woman novel to read. ;)
I never got to finish "Desperate Measures" because I was banned from Minimizer's board. The last chapter that I read ended with
SpoilerShow
"A naked, full-sized Veronica stumbled out of the chamber.". So now there were two Veronicas, a Barbie-sized one and a normal-sized one. The employee who produced the normal-sized Veronica while fooling around with the teleporter was in love with her. This seemed like the perfect solution: one Veronica for him, one Veronica for her husband. (Though I'm sure that the husband would want the normal-sized "Physics Babe".) It reminds me of a pulp story in which a man turns out to be identical twin brothers. Both of them are in love with the same woman. She accidentally gets duplicated during the testing of a "duplicating machine". So now there was one for each brother.

Foreverlurk even showed screenshots of tweets from people saying they hoped the roles in The Miniature Wife were reversed, which, even I notice, is typical for something like this coming out.
foreverlurk is a member here. He has a YouTube channel of clips of SW content from movies, TV shows, cartoons and anime. He recently uploaded some clips from the silent film era, including one from 1902!

This got me thinking, when was the last high-end TV or film that came out with a decent focus in part or more on SW? All I think of is Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010) shrink scene. I think I am wrong. Can anyone correct me? It cannot have been that long ago?
If cartoons count, there's the recent Polly Pocket cartoon that aired on the (now-defunct) Universal Kids Network.
